A Maymester course on Russian literature taught by a prominent Russian poet may be closed

As announced earlier, thanks to the Faculty-in Residence-Summer-Term (FIRST) program, a leading Russian poet Associate Professor Polina Barskova (Hampshire College) is supposed to teach a Maymester course RUSS 4831 Contemporary Russian Literature (May 11-29, three credit hours, Core: Literature and Arts and Contemporary Societies). Eleven students are already enrolled, but it may be closed since at least 17 students are required for a Maymester course. Please spread the word and support this innovative course.

Alternative Breaks program seeking site leaders

Applications for 2016 Alternative Breaks site leaders are open. Alternative Breaks is a student-led group where students participate in a week-long service trip during spring break or a two-week long service trip in May. Site-leaders participate in nine months of leadership development training and work with AB staff to organize and plan all AB trips. In teams of two, site leaders work to secure trip logistics, provide peer education, participant recruitment, community partner relationships and facilitate meaningful reflections on trips.

Take Your Child to Work Day - Thursday, April 23

Thursday, April 23, is “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.” This event provides a wonderful opportunity to introduce our children to the “behind the scenes” work that goes into operating our world-class university. CU’s Fiske Planetarium is offering a special show for children (all ages) from 8:45-9:45 a.m. Facilities Management Department is hosting a Safe and Secure Online workshop for kids ages 7-14. 4-5 p.m. at RL2, room 321. CU’s Rec Center is also offering fun activities and a pizza lunch for kids from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

UROP-HHMI poster symposium

The Biological Sciences Initiative (BSI) is sponsoring a poster symposium of UROP-HHMI grant recipients funded through BSI. Undergraduates represent several departments including IPHY, EBIO, MCDB, Neuroscience, Biochemistry and Engineering. Please come by and view their research work. The symposium will be on Monday, April 27, 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Recreation Center C250. Light refreshments will be served.

Recess Open House

Come join SORCE and the Women’s Resource Center at the Recess Open House on April 30. We’ll be hanging out from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in UMC 415-417. There will be fun activities including coloring books, board games, Just Dance 4, a meet and greet with staff and more. Free food and drinks while they last.

Khenpo Tsultrim Lodrö is a leading figure at Larung Buddhist Academy in eastern Tibet, the largest Buddhist institution on the Tibetan plateau with more than 10,000 monks and nuns.
