Creating the Sub-meter Image Base for the Arctic & Antarctic - Paul Morin

Paul Morin of the Polar Geospatial Center University of Minnesota will speak at the Institute of Arctic & Alpine Research on May 19, at 12 p.m. in RL 1, room 269 , 1560 30th St. Over the past 5 years, the Polar Geospatial Center (PGC) has worked to task, archive and process commercial sub-meter imagery for both poles. We now have near-seamless orthorectified and mosaicked panchromatic imagery for Alaska, Greenland and Antarctica, with the rest of the Arctic expected in the next 12 months. Seeking undergraduate research assistants: Gain experience with the Cognitive Development Center

Seeking motivated research assistants. Responsibilities vary with abilities/interests. Experience with kids and technology a plus. 6-8 hr/wk for two semesters typically required. We’ll provide A&S participants with pedagogical strategies, technologies and resources to begin flipping their classroom and increase their students’ learning. This workshop includes lunch, a license for the screencasting software, SnagIt, and a professional development award of $150. The award will be applied to an appropriate departmental speedtype and may not be used toward a salary stipend. Register here

Graduation Rain Plan!

Graduation is scheduled Saturday, May 9, at 8:30 a.m. in Folsom Field, with the procession beginning in the Quad at 8 a.m. This event will continue in the stadium as planned. In the event of severe weather there will be an abbreviated ceremony. Umbrellas will be permitted in the stadium. Congratulations Class of 2015!

University of Colorado Boulder Property Services will hold a public auction of surplus property and equipment on Saturday, May 16. Items will be available for preview beginning at 8 a.m. and the auction will begin at 9 a.m. Auctions are held on the east side of: University of Colorado Boulder Distribution Center 3300 Walnut St. in Boulder

FORCE: Enhancing function in later life

Seeking Boulder or Denver area residents and CU students, faculty, staff, and alumni age 65 and older for a research project. Planning to live in the Boulder/Denver Area for next six months. Compensation: $300 for six meetings plus a 16-week supervised exercise program. Eligibility: 65 years old or older, NOT regular exercisers. No non-removable metal in body. Summer workshops for kids at the CU Museum

Come and learn how ancient animals from the very large to the very small left evidence of their lives. Our archaeology days will show your kids how humans have left their mark, and what we can learn about ancient cultures from the artifacts we find. From dinosaurs and insects to deep sea creatures, our topics are sure to engage your children and make an impression on their summer. Workshops run every Friday morning 9 a.m. to noon, June 12-Aug. 7. The fee is $25 per workshop (10 percent discount for MuseumKids members and CU faculty/staff).
