Free public lecture, 'Crumpling and Wrinkling of Polymers and Membranes'

Location: DUAN G1B30 Tuesday, July 7, 7 p.m. The lecture is free and is aimed at the public, so no physics background is necessary. It will be presented by one of the authorities on the subject, a distinguished Harvard Professor, David R. Nelson, a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences who studies the fascinating world of modern ‘soft’ condensed matter and physical biology.

Recreationally-active male subjects needed for simulated spaceflight study

The Applied Exercise Science Lab at CU is currently recruiting male subjects (ages 18-44) for a study looking at physiological changes that occur during simulated space flight. We are using short term (four days) head-down tilt bed rest, a model of simulated spaceflight, to study changes in blood and fitness. Volunteers will receive monetary compensation ($600 for completion of study). Study will be ~2 weeks and will require a five-day in-lab period. If interested, E-mail Benjamin.ryan@colorado.edu

FIRST scholar Gary Holcomb explores black counterculture in Queer Black Renaissance course

The Harlem Renaissance opened the door for a vital queer black literary arts awakening. This seminar will explore such questions as how an interwar period queer black counterculture played a crucial role in bringing into being black modernist aesthetics, Black transnational culture, and black radical political action—nationalist, Pan-Africanist, and Marxist.
