Modern Indian Identity - Featuring Diné Photographer Will Wilson 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26, 2015 Hale 270 Will Wilson is a Diné photographer who spent his formative years living in the Navajo Nation. Wilson created The Critical Indigenous Exchange because he was impatient with the way that American culture remains enamored with photographer Edward S. Curtis’s portraits. Wilson is resuming the documentary mission of Curtis from the standpoint of a 21st century indigenous photographer, building a contemporary vision of Native North America.

Angelica Ross lecture Sept. 21

Angelica Ross is an inspirational transgender woman of color and national leader in the transgender movement. She will be giving a talk, entitled Bridging the Digital Divide: Reaching Liminal Spaces, on Monday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. in Chem 142. Ross is the CEO of TransTech Social Enterprise, whose mission is to empower, educate and employ those facing barriers in education and in the work place, as well as to reduce instances of discrimination, with a concentration on trans and gender non-conforming individuals.

Goryeo dynasty lacquerwares

By the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392), Korean shell inlayed lacquerwares emerged as a unique and highly refined art form. Join Carla Stansifer as she examines the particular characteristics of the Goryeo style inlayed lacquer wares and explores why these works are so rare. Learn how this art form transitioned and why this shift is significant to understanding Korean history. CAS Luncheon Series. Thursday, Sept. 17, 12 p.m., CAS Conference Room, 1424 Broadway. 'Talking with My Grandmother: World War I and the Women’s Peace Movement'

Friends of the CU Libraries will host a fall event, Talking with My Grandmother: World War I and the Women’s Peace Movement, commemorating the 100-year anniversary of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Thursday, Sept. 24, at 4:30 p.m. in Norlin Library on the CU-Boulder campus. Presenter Robin Lloyd will use dialogue, images and letters from 100 years ago to commemorate World War I and investigate its impact on the lives of our grandmothers – and thus on ourselves. A light catered reception is at 4 p.m.

A Jaipur Sampler

The Center for Asian Studies is a proud sponsor of the 2015 Jaipur Literary Festival Boulder, which will be held Sept. 19-20. In preparation for the Jaipur Literature Festival, we are presenting an afternoon of related programming including a panel presentation and a translation discussion. Panel Presentation: "I'm Just a Broad Person. The Earth is mine.": Cosmopolitanism(s) and Cultural Citizenship in the 21st Century. Translation Discussion: From Tibetan to English.
