Campus-wide photo shoot for LGBTQ and allied community Sept. 30

In order to celebrate CU-Boulder's designation as one of the Top 25 LGBTQ-incluisve universities and colleges in the nation, we would like to invite faculty, staff and administrators to attend a campus-wide photo shoot to highlight our support for the LGBTQ and allied community. The photo shoot will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11:45 a.m. in the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre. We will take the photograph promptly at noon. If you are able to participate, please request a photo release form and return it to sj.miller@colorado.edu.

Fun research projects for kids

The Cognitive Development Center in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is looking for children age birth to 12 years old who are interested in playing games that will help teach us about memory and language development. A visit, scheduled at your convenience, lasts about 60 minutes. Babysitting is available for siblings. Parents are compensated for travel and kids receive a fun prize. CHINA Town Hall: Local connections, national reflections

The 2015 program will feature a live webcast panel discussion with Robert Rubin; Sheldon Day; Daniel Rosen; and Stephen Orlins. The panel will discuss Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States. This will be followed by our on-site speaker, William Hurst, associate professor of political science at Northwestern University. He will speak on “Consultative Authoritarianism versus Political Decay: Politics at the Grassroots in China Today.” CAS Speaker Series. Monday, Oct. 5, 5 p.m. Eaton Humanities 250, CU-Boulder.

Spatial variations in gender norms among Korean Chinese communities in northeastern China

This talk, presented by Amy Schubert, Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geography, explores how divergent historical, social and economic experiences in northeastern China have produced spatial variation in gender norms among the ethnic Korean Chinese minority there. Essentially, Yanbian's geographic proximity to the Korean peninsula has made it an exceptional space within China, with consequently exceptional social practice. CAS Luncheon Series.
