Center of the American West Co-hosts GLO Commemoration Event: The Nation Possessed

The Center of the American West and the Public Lands Foundation (PLF) announce a bicentennial event, The Nation Possessed: The Conflicting Claims on America’s Public Lands, Sept. 12-14 at CU-Boulder, to reckon with the history of the federal government’s management and allocation of the public domain, and to find guidance in the past for the future. FREE events include: “Reflections of a Form BLM Director,” with Bob Abbey and Timothy Egan; and a Reenactment/Preenactment event with Clay Jenkinson and Bryce Townsend, and more.

Center of the American West Co-hosts Symposium Exploring Every American Citizen’s Landed Heritage

The Center of the American West and the Public Lands Foundation (PLF) announce a bicentennial event, The Nation Possessed: The Conflicting Claims on America’s Public Lands, Sept. 12-14 at CU-Boulder, to reckon with the history of the federal government’s management and allocation of the public domain, and to find guidance in the past for the future. This paid portion of the conference will explore topics such as the role of the arts on public lands to the challenges of making science-based decisions on topics of intense public controversy.

Global Citizen Awards

The Office of International Education (OIE) is pleased to announce the OIE Global Citizen Awards to recognize outstanding contributions to int'l understanding by members of the UCB community. The following awards will be given to one individual each for 2012: Campus Global Citizen of the Year, Muneeb Kamal Int’l Student of the Year, and Study Abroad Student of the Year. Center of the American West Hosts A Ditch in Time book release event

CU’s Center of the America West is proud to announce the release of A Ditch in Time: The City, the West, and Water, written by Patty Limerick with Jason Hanson. This book traces the history of water in Denver, raising questions of consequence about the complex relationship among cities, suburbs, and rural areas, the crucial role of engineering in shaping the West, and the varying roles of contention and cooperation, litigation and negotiation, at work. Join us on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 6:30 pm in Old Main - free & open to the public.

Fun Research Projects for Kids 3 to 5 and 8 to 10 years old!

CU and CSU faculty members are studying children's food choices. Participants will complete a collage and a taste test in less than 30 minutes. Participants needed for an Android app study - $60

Our CSCI Department research group is recruiting participants for a study to evaluate a new Android app we are developing, called SocialDining. SocialDining is intended for groups of friends who are interested in meeting together for food and drink, and provides recommendations regarding restaurants that would satisfy the group's preferences. You and at least one other friend must have an Android smartphone to participate in this study. You will be paid $60 for three weeks of participation. See Web link for more details.
