Italian Film Festival 2014

Come spend an evening in Italy. Enjoy the local premiere of three recent, critically acclaimed Italian films at the 2014 Italian Film Festival USA of Boulder. Enhancing your clinical practice: Helping girls and women develop healthy body image workshop

Carolyn Becker, professor of psychology at Trinity University, will lead a workshop for clinicians and educators that will introduce participants to a cognitive dissonance-based approach to preventing eating disorders. “The Body Project” is a body image improvement program that has been found to reduce onset of eating disorders in high school- and college-age females. The workshop (April 18 in the UMC) will deliver core components of “The Body Project.” The registration fee is $95, with a discount for students and BVSD counselors and staff.

Helping girls and women develop Healthy Body Image Community Talk April 17

Led by Carolyn Becker, professor of psychology at Trinity University, this community talk invites the public to discuss more than a decade’s worth of research on developing and disseminating proven strategies to prevent eating disorders and develop healthy body image. Becker will provide steps for freeing individuals, particularly women and girls, from excessive focus on physical appearance. A panel discussion featuring CU-Boulder researchers, BVSD counselors, eating disorder clinicians and other local experts will follow.

Public author reading and signing: 'Beautiful Fools'

In conjunction with his visit to CU-Boulder, the scholar and creative writer R. Clifton Spargo will read from his novel "Beautiful Fools: The Last Affair of Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald" at Innisfree Bookstore & Café, 1203 13th St., Boulder, on Friday, April 18, at 7 p.m. The event is supported by CU's President's Fund for Humanities. Spargo is a blogger for The Huffington Post and has published stories and essays in a wide variety of literary journals. He is currently the Provost's Visiting Writer in Fiction at the University of Iowa.
