The conscience of literature: The Holocaust, testimony, and the work of historical fiction

In this public lecture Professor R. Clifton Spargo will discuss testimonial writing - both personal accounts and historical fiction - as a public act that involves accountability to the self, others, and the past. While exploring topics ranging from the Holocaust to mental illness, civil rights and gender-based violence, he will connect the work of literature and the act of writing to the work of history. Spargo is the author of two scholarly works on Holocaust literature and the novel "Beautiful Fools." April 17, 7 p.m., Hale 270

The National Student Employment Association has declared that the second week in April is National Student Employment Week. This year, that’s April 14 – 18, and we want to show you our appreciation. Student employees and their supervisors should stop by and have a free slice of cake. Wednesday, April 16, from 12 - 3 p.m. or until we run out of cake. We'll be on the north side of the Regent Administrative Building, on the patio. If weather is bad, we will be inside the building in the atrium.

Feminist literary collective

Interested in expanding your feminist horizons? Come and join the Women’s Resource Center book club as we read and discuss a selected text each month surrounding pertinent women’s issues as they intersect with race, class, gender, sexuality. The book club will encourage open and free discussion. It is a great way to start reading again if you have not done so in a while, as well as engage in conversation feminist-friends-to-be. Join us Friday, April 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. in UMC 416 to discuss "Girl, Interrupted" by Susanna Kaysen.
