Maymester course in Russian literature

RUSS/HUMN 4811 Intro. to 19th-Century Russian Literature Core: Literature and the Arts The great writers of 19th-century Russia made an enormous contribution to world literature and modern thought; their influence continues to be evident even in contemporary culture—from Fight Club to Anna Karenina. In this course students will be introduced to Russia’s greatest writers—Alexander Pushkin, Ivan Turgenev, Lev Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky, among others—and the literary movements and social debates of the 19th century their works reflect.
