Caps and gowns

Regalia for graduate students and faculty is available for pick up at the Balch Fieldhouse, May 7 until 5 p.m. and May 8, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Regalia is required to participate in commencement.

Will Power Festival, hosted by the Colorado Shakespeare Festival

The Colorado Shakespeare Festival hosts five elementary schools performing Shakespeare’s comedy, "The Tempest," on the Mary Rippon Outdoor Stage. The Will Power Festival Parade across Norlin Quad, led by Queen Elizabeth and William Shakespeare, kicks off the celebration at 9:45 a.m. Head to the middle of the quad to catch these costumed performers marching from Macky to Hellems. Performances are in the Rippon between 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., with each school performing one act of Shakespeare’s play. Free and open to the public.

Janus supercomputer tutorials

Members of the research computing group will be giving a series of tutorials in the coming weeks intended to give both the beginning and more advanced user information on use of the Janus supercomputer. The tutorial times and locations are: * Friday, May 30, from 10-11 a.m., Technology Learning Center, room 15 * Monday, June 2, from 1-2 p.m., ARCE, room 620 * Thursday, June 12, from 12-1 p.m., Technology Learning Center, room 215 If you have any questions or topic suggestions, feel free to email rc-help@colorado.edu.

Exercise and cancer prevention research study

Reason for this study: To understand how exercise prevents cancer. What you will do: Fitness assessments, questionnaires, supervised exercise, blood and saliva collection. Compensation: You can earn up to $300. Who can be in the study: You must be a female between the ages of 30-45 and plan to live in Denver for the next 10 months. You should not be a regular exerciser but you should be willing to exercise four times per week for 16 weeks.

M-F 12:45 - 2:20 p.m. Discusses the social determinants of sexuality. Analyzes the economic, psychological and cultural influences on human sexuality. Interactional perspective of human sexuality is presented. Restricted to sophomores, juniors and seniors.

How about a course taught through the LGBT Certificate. Introducing: WMST 3710-100 Global Topics: Global Politics of HIV/AIDS. M-F 12:20 - 2:45 p.m. We will examine AIDS science, sociopolitical causes of the epidemic, global policy and transnational activism. Much of our attention will be on the African continent, given the central role of Africa, both practically and symbolically, in the history of the global epidemic. May be repeated up to six total credit hours. Prereq., WMST 2000 or 2600. Restricted to sophomores/juniors/seniors.

How about a course taught through the LGBT Certificate. Introducing: ANTH 3180 Gender, Culture, and Sexuality. M-F 12:45 - 2:20 p.m. Focuses on gender, the making of men and women and how gender is culturally constructed in different societies. Gender describes many areas of behavior, feelings, thoughts and fantasies that cannot solely be understood as biologically produced. Prereq., ANTH 2100. Similar to WMST 2080.

How about a course taught through the LGBT Certificate. Introducing: ENGL 4287/LGBT 4287 Special Topics in LGBT, Multicultural & Postcolonial Literature: Queer Modernism. M-F 9 am - 12 pm. The modernist moment was a period in which a new order of gender, sexuality, and class relations coincided with innovations in literary representation. In this course we will try to come to some understanding of the much debated term “modernism” by looking at a diversity of Anglo American texts by men and women that explore the topic of homosexuality.
