The Backstory of 'Backlands'

The Friends of the CU Libraries will host Michael McGarrity, acclaimed mystery writer, on Thursday, June 19, at 7 p.m. at the Wolf Law Building on the CU-Boulder campus. He will talk about his newly released historical fiction Backlands, the second installment of his sweeping, raw American West trilogy set in the New Mexico during the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression and World War II. Mr. McGarrity is the New York Times bestselling author of Hard Country and 11 other bestselling Kevin Kerney crime novels.

Building the Road Map: Educate, Inspire, Empower and Transform 2014 marks the 50th commemoration of the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act. To honor this monumental legal shift in America, the Diversity and Inclusion Summit on Nov. 11-12 continues “Building the Road Map” that we hope will lead to achieving equality for all. We seek proposals that will further our pursuit of a diverse and inclusive community as well as reflect and honor the historical context of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Due June 30.

Learn Italian the fun way with ALTEC non-credit language classes this summer

Taught by an Italian native from Rome, this dynamic summer class runs June 10 - July 10 at ALTEC in Hellems. *We will focus on conversational skills while learning about Italian culture, art and society. *University of Colorado faculty, staff, graduate students and retirees, as well as spouses, are eligible to enroll at a subsidized rate of $75. Deadline extended to apply for the TIGER: Diversity in the classroom and job market

The Graduate Teacher Program is hosting a four-day interactive diversity training for CU-Boulder graduate students. Training is designed to help CU-Boulder STEM TAs, RAs and GPTIs (other disciplines welcome if space allows) incorporate diversity and inclusion into their classroom teaching and prepare for their academic careers. No fee for training, only a required commitment to complete all four days. Limited to 20 registered participants. Apply to reserve your place in workshop by June 16.

RMACC High Performance Computing Symposium Aug. 12-13

Registration is now open for the Rocky Mountain Advanced Computing Consortium High Performance Computing Symposium on Aug. 12-13. The symposium will be located in Boulder and will feature engaging panel discussion, interesting tutorials and exciting keynote speakers. There will be tracks for students, faculty and professionals.
