ASSETT development awards: Fall 2014 call for proposals

ASSETT invites proposals from Arts and Sciences faculty, departments and programs for awards relating to the use of technology primarily for teaching and learning. The maximum award possible is $5,000. Faculty of any rank and GPTIs may apply. Unit chairs or directors must provide a brief supporting letter. Department proposals for equipment or software that may be used in teaching and learning are also welcome. More information

BFSA and Biotech Club Annual BBQ

FREE FOOD The BioFrontiers Science Alliance and Biotech Club will be having their annual welcome back BBQ this Friday, Sept. 19, from 5 - 7 p.m. at the JSCBB Grill area. We will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers and sides. We will have lawn games, a raffle for a gift card to The Sink, science posters, a BFSA logo competition, and lots of fun. Cultured Warriors: The Enduring Legacy of the Samurai in Japanese Society

Dr. Robert Pontsioen will outline the history and significance of samurai culture, from the rise of the samurai in 12th-century feudal Japan and their many centuries of military governance, to the arrival of Commodore Perry's "black ships" from America and the end of the samurai class. This lecture, which will be followed by a dance performance from the CU Japanese ensemble, celebrates the opening of the newest exhibit in the CU Museum of Natural History’s Anthropology Hall. We will focus on reference and citation managers such as Zotero, Mendeley and Refworks, in light of your workflow and use of technology so you can become a more efficient and effective researcher. Learn about the advantages (and disadvantages) and talk to librarians about the best fit for you, your research and your workflow.
