This course will pursue the question of why the vampire will not “die,” but instead continues to appeal to modern and post-modern imaginations. Through a wide range of readings, art, film and critical analyses we will trace the evolution of the literary vampire from a terrifying creature of lore into the Romantic and highly sexual being of popular Western culture.
