Candlelight vigil for 70,000 victims of the war on drugs in Mexico

Students for Sensible Drug Policy invites you to join us in a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Fountain Area of the UMC. More than 70,000 people have lost their lives to the war on drugs in Mexico alone. The most recent victims were 43 students who were abducted by police and drug cartels in Iguala, Mexico on Sept. 26. We will stand in solidarity with the victims and their families against this senseless violence. This event will coincide with events happening throughout the U.S. and Mexico.

Summer course and project in Bolivia: Meeting Oct. 29

Earn six credits in five weeks in this off-the-beaten-path South American destination. Students will earn three credits for the "Democracy and Development" course, and then three credits for a research or service-learning project. RHA Haunted Halls Oct. 18

Do you like exploring haunted asylums? Are you prepared for a zombie apocalypse? Are you ready to be scared? Join us for the Annual Residence Hall Association (RHA) Haunted Halls on Saturday, Oct. 18, 8 p.m. - midnight in Stearns Central of Williams Village to brave the dark depths of the basement. The event will also include free food, a DJ and an interactive photo booth. Must have a valid Buff One Card to enter.

The Hong Kong protest movement: A forum discussion

Join the Center for Asian Studies as we hold a forum discussion on the recent protests in Hong Kong. Panelists will offer an analysis of the protests, including the historical background of the protests, the contemporary context of the protests and present-day Hong Kong and Chinese relations. Panelists include Tim Oakes, professor of geography; Timothy Weston, associate professor of history; and Yang Yang, Ph.D. candidate in the department of geography. CAS Speaker Series.
