A look at financial woes through an artistic lens

Art and literature are often viewed as having little to do with money and finance. Yet, writers and artists have long been fascinated by these subjects and especially by stock market bubbles and crashes. This course explores how European and American playwrights, artists, novelists and filmmakers have dealt with financial bubbles—and finance more generally—from the 1710s to the present. ENGL 4039-005 Financial Bubbles in Literature, Art, and Film MW 4:30-5:45PM, Catherine Labio. Contact Catherine.Labio@colorado.edu to waive prerequisites.

AIA lecture series: Re-ensouling the ruined in Late Classic coastal Oaxaca, Mexico

Join archaeologist Arthur Joyce at the CU Museum of Natural History Wed. Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. for this free lecture. Built in the late Terminal Formative period (AD 100-250), the acropolis was virtually in ruins by the Late Classic period (AD 500-800) when Río Viejo re-emerged as a political center. New rulers ritually reanimated the acropolis through the emplacement of an elaborate offering that referenced earlier offerings which included human burials, ceramic vessels and the probable remains of sacrificial victims, both human and animal.
