Shakespeare celebration and sonnet extravaganza

The English Department and Shakespeare 400: The First Folio at CU-Boulder are teaming up to throw a party for Shakespeare and for those of us who study, admire and enjoy the bounty of his literary genius. Celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s life's work with a sonnet-writing competition, a sonnet-reading marathon, a display of student projects and an exhibit of Shakespeare materials in Norlin’s Special Collections, as well as music, treats and more. Friday, April 8, 2 to 5 p.m, British Studies Room, Norlin M549.

Seminar with Michael Morgan: 'Emmanuel Levinas on Ethics and the Holocaust'

Emmanuel Levinas (1906-1995) was one of the leading Jewish thinkers of the twentieth century. Seeking to rethink the possibility of morality after the Holocaust, Levinas exercised a profound influence on philosophy, religious thought and Jewish life. In this seminar, visiting scholar Michael Morgan will explore Levinas’s writings on suffering, the Holocaust and the nature of ethics. This seminar is part of a week of events on religion and politics, organized as part of the annual CU-DU Week of Jewish Philosophy.

Italian Film Festival USA 2016

Enjoy the local premiere of recent acclaimed Italian films! All films shown in Italian with English subtitles. Friday, April 8, 6 p.m., HUMN 1B50: "Wondrous Boccaccio" a drama inspired by Boccaccio's Decameron. Followed by Prof. Valerio Ferme's lecture on Boccaccio. Saturday, April 9, 6 p.m., HUMN 150: "Le Legendary Giulia", a comedy on local Mafia and entrepreneurship. Sunday, April 10, 2 p.m., HUMN 150: "The Children Know", a documentary on Italian children's take on life and culture in Italy. All films are free.

An evening with Jamie Tworkowski at CU

On April 14, TWLOHA at CU, a student group at the University of Colorado Boulder, invites students and the community to listen to Jamie Tworkwoski, the founder of To Write Love on Her Arms, speak and participate in a Q&A. Music will be performed by Steven McMorran of Satellite. TWLOHA information and merchandise will be available at the event (cash only). This event is free and open to students and the public. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom. Doors open at 6:30pm.

Start smart salary negotiation workshop

Will you be graduating soon? Do you want to learn skills to negotiate a higher salary and better benefits? Join us on Tuesday, April 19, 4:30 to 7 p.m. in C4C S350 at this interactive workshop to better understand the pay gap, know your worth, and gain the confidence and skills to earn fair compensation upon graduation. This is a FREE workshop with preference given to 3rd or 4th year women-identified students. Appetizers will be provided. Paid study for active men who do not bicycle for exercise

The Applied Exercise Science Lab is seeking 18-35 year-old men who participate in ≥three sessions of aerobic exercise per week of >30min totally 2.5–5.0 hrs/wk. This may not include cycling (commuting is ok), but may include running, hiking, swimming, basketball, soccer, tennis, etc. More screening questions will be asked upon inquiry. The study will require 8 hrs: 4 visits, 2 hrs/visit. You will be compensated $50 for your participation. Assessment of VO2max, lactate threshold, efficiency/economy and training zones is included.

Adult coloring is more than just a stress-busting fad, it's a great way to engage and relax with friends, focus your brain and calm your mind! 'Between Two Cubas' - Talk by Ruth Behar

"Between Two Cubas" - Talk by Ruth Behar: 5 p.m. in the Center for British and Irish Studies, 5th Floor of Norlin Library. Ruth Behar was born in Havana, Cuba, and grew up in New York. She is the Victor Haim Perera Collegiate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan. Her honors include a MacArthur “Genius” Award, a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, a Distinguished Alumna Award from Wesleyan University, and an Excellence in Education Award from the University of Michigan. http://blackbirdarts.org/news
