Property Services live auction of surplus property and equipment Sept. 10

University of Colorado Boulder Property Services will hold a public auction of surplus property and equipment on Saturday, Sept. 10. Items will be available for preview beginning at 8 a.m. and the auction will begin at 9 a.m. Auctions are held on the east side of: University of Colorado Boulder, Distribution Center, 3300 Walnut St., Boulder, CO 80301.

Take part in an alcohol study

The goal of the study is to examine changes in the body that happen when people consume alcohol. The study will take place at the Center for Innovation and Creativity at Arapahoe and 33rd Street. Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires and provide a blood sample, and can receive up to $50. Participants must be between the ages of 25-40 and a regular or occasional alcohol consumer. 'Mapping the Majestic: 100 Years of the National Park Service' exhibit now open

The University Libraries at CU Boulder are pleased to present an exhibition of maps celebrating the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary (Aug. 25, 2016). The exhibit includes a genuine copper printing plate used by the U.S. Geological Survey in the early days of their operation. Visit the Earth Sciences & Map Library in Benson Earth Sciences on the CU Boulder campus between Aug. 22 and Dec. 16 to experience the wonder of our National Park system as visualized in maps.

'Staging Shakespeare in a War Zone: Values and Consequences'

Learn about author Qais Akbar Omar’s experience staging "Love’s Labour’s Lost" in Kabul in 2005 during his presentation “Staging Shakespeare in a War Zone: Values and Consequences," on Monday, Aug. 29, 5:30 p.m. A light reception will be held at 5 p.m. The presentation will be held at the University Theatre located at 1595 Pleasant Street in Boulder. Paid internship with Cognitive Development Center and the Children's Museum of Denver

Deadline: Sept. 9 Responsibilities: go once a week to Children's Museum of Denver for 4 hrs to facilitate an exhibit about child development research, interact with children and parents, work w/ research assistant team, mutual professional development opportunities with museum staff. Staging Shakespeare in a war zone: Values and consequences

Join the CU Boulder Friends of the Libraries Monday, Aug. 29, in the University Theatre to hear Qais Akbar Omar, author of A Night in the Emperor's Garden, share his experience staging Love’s Labour's Lost in Kabul in 2005. It was the first production of the Bard in Afghanistan in 30 years to include female cast members. There will be a small reception at 5 p.m. followed by Mr. Omar’s lecture at 5:30 p.m. The author will sign copies of his book afterward. Register for free now.

Monarch Migration with Deane Bowers

Did you know the monarch is the only butterfly to migrate back and forth from their winter and summer habitats like birds? Join Deane Bowers at the CU Museum of Natural History on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. as she explains the amazing monarch migration: from the discovery of the monarch overwintering sites, to the ecology and physiology that allows this fascinating life history, to what we know about how they do it. Lecture is free and open to the public.

Pollinator appreciation: Bees, birds, butterflies and moths

September is pollinator month in Boulder. Join Deane Bowers at the CU Museum of Natural History on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. as she explains the biology of pollination and highlights the importance of these animal “go-betweens” for plant pollination. She will discuss the fascinating ecology and evolution of these interactions and the important role birds and insects play on the planet, in our gardens, and in our lives. The lecture is free and open to the public.
