C.N. Howard author reception and book signing

The Friends of the Libraries invites you to an author reception and book signing for C.N. Howard’s two new novels: Wrath of Angles and Blood Totems. Student actors will do dramatic readings from both books; author C.N. Howard will be on hand for a Q&A and to sign books. This Sept.28, 2012 event takes place at 7-9 pm in Norlin Library’s Center for British and Irish Studies on the CU Boulder campus. Currently Howard is a cataloger/media specialist in the CU Libraries. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments.

Rep. Claire Levy on Changing Concealed Carry Rules, 9/21

Claire Levy, Colorado’s 13th House District Representative in the Colorado legislature since 2007, will address interested faculty about ways CU could constitutionally create its own rules about carrying concealed weapons on campus. Representative Levy will speak and take questions on Friday 9/21 from 3-4 pm in the Visual Arts Complex (VAC) 1B20. Curious about the results from the 2012 Employee Engagement Survey? Want to learn more about how the trends and themes from the survey can help you build a more engaged team? Come to this month’s Supervisor’s Roundtable for a presentation of the overall results as well as a discussion of key themes and trends across campus. LGBT-Inclusive pedagogy workshop

This interactive session will cover university and state-wide policies pertaining to the LGBTQ community, including protections for gender identity and expression. We will share and invite strategies for making the classroom more LGBTQ-inclusive, from attendance-taking to designing assignments and handling class discussions that avoid tokenizing and stereotyping. LGBTQ Safe Zone Training

The GLBTQ Resource Center offers Safe Zone Trainings through the semester. These interactive workshops provide education about gender and sexual diversity, allyship, and CU-Boulder-specific LGBTQ policies and services. Please contact Scarlet Bowen to register for one of the sessions. The next workshop will be held Friday, Sept. 21 from 12-2 pm in the UMC, room 415-417.

We are a student group dedicated to doing service around campus and in the community such as working with the Boulder Homeless Shelter, Girl Scouts of America and Colorado Open Spaces/Mountain Parks. Fun research projects for kids!

The Cognitive Development Center in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is looking for children age birth to 14 years old who are interested in playing games that will help teach us about memory and language development. A visit, scheduled at your convenience, lasts between 30-120 minutes. On average, most projects take 60 minutes. Babysitting is available for siblings. Parents are compensated for travel and kids receive a fun prize.

Grief Support Group - Faculty and Staff Assistance Program

Group meets on Thursdays, beginning Feb 28, 2013, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the UMC This group is for those who are recently bereaved or just beginning the grief process. Sessions include information about grief, support to determine your own needs and coping skills, and time to share experiences. Handouts will provide additional material that can be shared with others. Ben Leonard, FSAP counselor will facilitate the process, provide information and understanding in a safe, supportive and accepting environment.
