What’s Hot About Food: Putting Your Fork In Climate Change – an evening with Anna Lappé

Join us on Sept. 18 for a sustainability expo and conversation with author Anna Lappé. The event, entitled “What’s Hot About Food: Putting Your Fork In Climate Change,” will feature an expo of non-profit and sustainable business representatives followed by a conversation and book signing by Lappé, founder of the Small Planet Institute. The presentation will explore global climate change through food choices. Lappé will also sign copies of her book on sustainability and justice in the global food chain.

Tax planning and tax strategies for CU students and parents

Sept. 28, 8:30-10 a.m. Join us in UMC 247 for bagels, coffee, and an informative workshop designed for CU students and their parents. We’ve invited Certified Public Accountants from to campus during Family Weekend to help CU students and parents with some tax strategies for college. Come to this free workshop to gather information about claiming dependents, education tax credits, qualifying expenses, 1098-T forms, tax implications of tuition and housing payments, how tax returns can affect financial aid packages, and more!

Dr. Fran Bagenal—Voyager: 35 years of Exploring the Solar System

The Voyager spacecraft were launched in 1977 and have involved several LASP scientists and engineers. Dr. Fran Bagenal will discuss the mission and the huge impact of their scientific discoveries on our understanding of the Solar System. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 7:30 pm in the LASP LSTB building (Auditorium 299), located at 1234 Innovation Drive in the east campus Research Park. Doors open at 7 pm. Motor learning

The Neuromechanics Lab needs volunteers for a study on motor learning. The experiment involves making reaching movements in a virtual environment using a robot to play a computer game. You must be between 18-40 years old, and have normal or corrected vision, have no movement control problems, and have no recent orthopedic surgeries or broken bones. Experiments will last ~1-3 hours. Movies at the Museum for kids

Raining meatballs - now that would be climate change! We'll be viewing "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs: you bring your pillow or snuggly, we'll provide the snacks. Participate in an activity about water and the weather and enjoy a free movie. Saturday, Sept. 15, 1-3:30 pm.

Student Annual Research Symposium (StARS) - Oct. 1

Are you interested in cutting edge energy research or novel tissue engineering applications? If so, come join us at this year’s Student Annual Research Symposium (StARS) hosted by the graduate students of Chemical and Biological Engineering. This year’s symposium will be held on Monday, Oct. 1 from 8 am - 5 pm in the Bechtel Collaboratory in the Discovery Learning Center (DLC) in the Engineering Center. Students will present their work throughout the day and a panel discussion will be held geared toward life after graduate school.

Join Career Services and the Office of International Education on Monday, 10/8, 5:30-7:30 pm in C4C J.D. Abrams Lounge to learn about how to get hired based on your international experiences. You’ll learn about resumes, interviewing, putting together your “elevator pitch” and cultural adaptation, in addition to meeting with other returnees and network with representatives of int'l opportunities post-graduation.
