Sights and Sounds of the Islamic World!

The Muslim Student Association at CU-Boulder would like to invite you to attend the 9th Annual Sights and Sounds of the Islamic World! The event will include: Comedian Amer Zahr Multicultural Islamic performances Islamic fashion show Booths with henna tattoos, Arabic calligraphy, traditional clothes, and more FREE FOOD! Russian folk music ensemble Zolotoj Plyos at CU-Boulder

April 3, 7 p.m., University Club Ballroom Zolotoj Plyos is a trio of three outstanding musicians originally from Russia. The repertoire of Zolotoj Plyos consists of authentic folk songs from numerous regions in Russia and Ukraine, which they perform in Russian, Ukrainian and Yiddish. In addition, they play more than 30 different traditional folk instruments and perform traditional dances.

Buffalo Can Challenge Bins Will be Up April 1!

Bufflao Can Bins for the food challenge will be seen around campus starting April 1! Buffalo Can Challenge is CU’s annual competition organized to raise awareness about hunger in Boulder County and collect food and resources for Community Food Share, Boulder County's Food Bank. Registered groups design and build a sculpture out of nonperishable food items to raise awareness about hunger. The Buffalo Can Challenge will take place on April 17 in the Fountain area outside of the UMC. 11am-2pm. Judging at 2 p.m.

Summer Core Course: RUSS/WMST 4471, Women in 20th Century Russian Culture

Readings and films from the 1900s to the 2000s: provocative women’s fiction and radical feminist theories, great female poets, Soviet film classics and recent movies and performances by women artists (Pussy Riot group), fascinating life stories. RUSS 2231-010, Fairy Tales of Russia: Fall 2013 Core Course

This course introduces students to the rich tradition of Russian folk belief, mythology and fairy tales. Students will examine, on the one hand, how Russian folk belief and fairy tales reflect cultural, social and political values. On the other hand, students will analyze how Russian and Soviet artists, writers and politicians have utilized folk belief and fairy tales in service of their own ideologies and programs. Taught in English. Approved for arts and sciences core curriculum: literature and the arts.

Maymester Core Course: HEBR 2350/ JWST 2350. Introduction to Jewish Culture

Come and explore the development of Jewish culture as it moves across the chronological and geographical map of the historic Jewish people with an emphasis on the variety of Jewish ethnicities and their cultural productions. Taught in English. Approved for Arts & Sciences Core Curriculum: Human Diversity. This is also one of the required introductory courses for the Jewish Studies major and minor.

Fall 2013 Core Course: RUSS 2221-010, Introduction to Modern Russian Culture

This course introduces students to the major trends in Russian culture from the 1890s to the present. In addition to learning about the history of this turbulent period (WWI, revolutions, the great terror, the GULag, WWII, the Cold War, perestroika, the collapse, post-Soviet Russia), we will study the literature, art & cinema of this time. Taught in English. Approved for arts & sciences core curriculum: historical context.
