Come learn how easy and fun it is to make goat cheese. By attending this workshop you will learn how to make your very own goat cheese from scratch while helping the less fortunate living in rural Nepal All of the proceeds from this event will be help fund the 30 goats in 30 days project which empowers women in the remote northern Dhading District of Nepal so that they can free themselves from situations of domestic violence as well as lead healthier, more educated lives. Reading Club: 'The Rose Garden,' Tuesday, April 2

Rumi Club invites you to its Reading Club to read and discuss "The Rose Garden" (Gulistan) by Saadi Shirazi on Tuesday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m. "The Rose Garden" is a landmark of Persian literature, perhaps its single most influential work of prose for 700 years. Voltaire, Goethe, Arnold, Longfellow, Emerson, Thoreau, Melville, Franklin and many others discovered, read, and took inspiration from it. We will provide free Turkish tea and snacks. Maymester core course: RUSS 4811 Introduction to 19th-Century Russian Literature

The great writers of 19th-century Russia made an enormous contribution to world literature, and have influenced modern thought, writing and film. In this survey course students will be introduced to such writers as Pushkin, Turgenev, Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, and the major literary movements and social debates of the 19th century their works reflect. "A Day in the Life of the Digital Humanities" on April 8

April 8 is Day of Digital Humanities, an open community publication project that documents what scholars interested in the digital humanities do during one day. The goal is to find out “Just what do digital humanists really do?” Participants document their day through photographs & text on the community’s online platform Anyone who considers themselves a part of the digital humanities community is invited to participate, write, share and comment.

Dr. Peter Van Arsdale presents “A Theory of Obligation”

Dr. Peter Van Arsdale (University of Denver) will be hosted by the department of anthropology on Friday, April 5 for a public talk in Hale 230 at 4 p.m. In his talk “A Theory of Obligation,” he outlines an expansive argument for humanitarian intervention, especially in relation to water access, refugee rights, mental health and the military/civilian interface. His talk will be followed by a short reception. The department also will host a catered lunch in Hale 450 from 12:30-2 p.m. to discuss a recent article (contact department for this).

LASP Public Lecture—The Antarctic Ozone Hole: Looking for the first signs of recovery

Thanks to the phase-out of many of the chemicals responsible for the creation of the "ozone hole" in the 80s and 90s, we should soon start to see a recovery in the ozone layer. Dr. Lars Kalnajs will present some recent measurements from inside the ozone hole and address the forecasts and challenges for a complete recovery of the ozone hole.
