Nabokov’s Religious Apostasy: Gnostic Turpitude

A lecture by Professor Sergei Davydov, Professor Emeritus, Middlebury College. The early writings of the great Russian-American writer Vladimir Nabokov were rife with themes and images from his Russian Orthodox religion. However, from 1925 on, Nabokov began to re-code his Orthodox Christianity into a peculiar "poetic religion" of his own. This Oct. 15, 4 pm talk explores the reasons behind this process and the literary techniques involved. Hale 260. Presented by: Comparative Literature Graduate Program.

Peace Corps Extravaganza - Oct 23

Join us to learn what Peace Corps life is like from Returned Volunteers who have served all over the world on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. in the UMC - Glenn Miller Ballroom. Our keynote speaker this year will be Justice Greg Hobbs of the Colorado Supreme Court. Justice Hobbs was part of the first decade of volunteers to join the Peace Corps, serving as an Educational Television Volunteer in Columbia from 1967 to 1968. Nearly 50 years later his service has still left an impact on him. There will also be a Ghanaian Dance performance from Logo Ligi!

With Herbst Program of Humanities’ faculty Anja Lange, you will get a first-hand look at China by studying its literature and participating in campus life at Xi’an Jiaotong University. You will visit the Terra Cotta Army, Tang Dynasty tombs, and spend 3 days in Beijing. Participants will receive a generous scholarship from the Tang Fund and the Center for Asian Studies: Interest Meeting: Thurs., Oct. 17, 5 – 6 p.m., UMC 425.

Business of Sports Certificate Program

Are you interested in the business of sports? The Business of Sports Certificate (BOS) is an intensive, six-credit course for students interested in pursuing careers in sports and recreation. In the morning, learn basic business concepts including: Sports Law, Leadership, Sports Marketing, etc. In the afternoon, work in groups on experiential, researched-based projects designed by contributing partners.
