It's not too late: Add an applied music course to your schedule

Earn two credit hours this spring with CU-Boulder's Applied Music Program. Group classes include guitar and hand drum circle. Teen playwriting class with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival

Do you know a teenager with a passion for playwriting? The Colorado Shakespeare Festival is offering teenagers a 10-week playwriting intensive, held on Monday evenings (Feb. 23-May 4), and taught by Theatre doctoral student Sarah Johnson. Property Services’ live auction of surplus property and equipment

University of Colorado Boulder Property Services will hold a public auction of surplus property and equipment on Saturday, Feb. 7. Items will be available for preview beginning at 8 a.m. and the auction will begin at 9 a.m. Auctions are held on the east side of: University of Colorado Boulder Distribution Center 3300 Walnut St. Boulder, CO 80301

Subjects needed for passive cycling study: $160

The Applied Exercise Science Lab is seeking sedentary male subjects aged 18-55 to study passive cycling (involves a stationary bicycle with a motor rotating the bicycle pedals for you). The experiment will consist of four separate sessions each lasting four hours. Benefits of participating include: body composition (percent body fat), fitness assessment, bone density, glucose tolerance assessment and determination of caloric expenditure. You will be paid $160 for study completion.

Sylvia Wilkinson presents her new novel, 'Big Cactus'

Friends of the CU Libraries will host Sylvia Wilkinson reading from and discussing her new novel, "Big Cactus," Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 4:30 p.m. in Norlin Library, 5th Floor. In "Big Cactus," plucky teenage Benny takes his headstrong 84-year-old Aunt Lucy on a road trip from North Carolina to see the giant saguaro cactus in Arizona. Along the way, they rescue a stranded runaway, and the three venture forth in Benny’s 1965 GMC pickup, accompanied by Benny’s dog Polar. "Big Cactus" is published in Boulder by Owl Canyon Press.

Free avalanche awareness talk

The Backcountry Club has arranged for Friends of Berthoud Pass to conduct a talk on avalanche awareness and safety this Thursday, Jan. 15. The event begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in room 180 of the Benson Earth Sciences building. The talk is free and open to the public; you do not need to be a member of the Backcountry Club in order to attend.
