Performance Friday!

The Center for Humanities and the Arts invites you to this month’s Performance Friday! featuring excerpts from Theatre and Dance's production of Tartuffe. Tartuffe tells how a “man of the cloth” worms his way into the gullible heart of Orgon, a rich family man, and tries to take him for all he has. It takes a desperate trap by Orgon’s wife Elmire to expose the imposter. Please join us Feb. 13, from 12-1 p.m., in the University Theatre. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for a free, light lunch in the lobby.

This concert includes works by the tango master Astor Piazzolla, and other Argentine and Brazilian composers. Please join us Jan. 31, 12-1 p.m., in British and Irish Studies (Norlin Library’s 5th Floor). Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for a free, light lunch.

Society of Environmental Engineers: Kickoff meeting Jan. 22

Come join the Society of Environmental Engineers (SEVEN) for the semester kickoff meeting. We will cover events happening this semester, and also be giving away prizes. Find us this Thursday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m. in ECCR 1B06. Free pizza will be provided.

Learn how to dance salsa

The CU Boulder chapter of Ritmos Latinos, a recognized student organization, holds classes in basic salsa every Tuesday night. The first class of the spring semester will be next Tuesday, Jan. 31. Join us at the Dennis Small Cultural Center (UMC fourth floor, room 457) from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and learn to dance rueda-de-casino style salsa. There's no charge, and you don't have to bring a partner. Classes are open to all members of the CU Boulder student, staff and faculty community. Feel free to bring a friend.

Kicking the Habit: Sanho Tree on Drug Policy Reform in the U.S. and Around the World

Students for Sensible Drug Policy presents this special event with Sanho Tree on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the University Memorial Center, Room 235. Sanho Tree is a Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C., and director of its Drug Policy Project, which works to end the domestic and international “War on Drugs” and replace it with policies that promote public health and safety. Light appetizers will be served during the event.

16th annual Thompson Awards for Western American Writing - $500 prizes

Each year, Center of the American West awards $500 cash prizes to talented students writing on Western topics. All CU-Boulder degree program students are eligible. Categories are poetry, fiction, memoir, creative non-fiction and academic non-fiction. The deadline is March 22, and we are accepting entries now. If you keep it in mind this semester, you may be able to use a class assignment to write something that will be perfect for the contest. Reminder: Accepting Student Employee of the Year nominations

The Student Employment Office is accepting nominations for Student Employee of the Year. Work-study, hourly and salaried student employees are eligible. First place will receive a $75 gift certificate courtesy of the CU Bookstore and will be nominated for the Western Association of Student Employment Administrators Award. Second place will receive a $50 gift certificate. 2015 CU Digital Humanities speaker and workshop series kickoff

Digital Humanities Research: Techniques and Questions Will Thomas, Chair, History Department, University of Nebraska - Lincoln Jan. 23 , 3 - 4:30 p.m., Norlin 5th floor. This talk will explore the methods behind digital humanities research projects and will offer an introduction to the digital humanities. Examining a range of successful projects in History, Literary Studies, Media Studies, and Geography, as well as digital libraries, we will explore what the digital medium does well and how it can be used for humanities research.

Spring 'Beyond Academia' lecture series Begins with Dr. Chipman

Jan 22. 4 - 5 p.m. Main Campus - Muenzinger E214 Join us for the Spring “Beyond Academia” lectures, hosted by the Graduate School. This series is designed to inform graduate students about possibilities for careers outside of academia by connecting CU-Boulder students with scholars working outside of universities.
