The Center for Humanities and the Arts invites you to this month's Performance Friday! featuring excerpts from CU Opera's production of L'incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi's drama about sex, crime and realpolitik during the debauched reign of the Roman Emperor Nero, turning conventional morality on its head - virtue is punished and greed rewarded. This production will be styled after House of Cards. Please join us April 10, 12-1 p.m., Norlin Library’s 5th Floor. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for a free, light lunch.

Cannabis Symposium: a teach-in on an ancient medicinal plant and current drug policy

Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) at the University of Colorado Boulder is excited to present the second annual Cannabis Symposium on Wednesday, April 15, 9:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Wolf Law building. This event seeks to revolutionize 4/20 on our campus by shifting the focus to public education, personal safety and political engagement. Come learn about the cultural and medicinal history of the cannabis plant, the impacts of the U.S. "war on drugs," and how cannabis policies are changing in Colorado and around the world.

Subjects needed for electrically assisted bicycle study

The Applied Exercise Science Lab is seeking sedentary subjects aged 18-55 to study electrically assisted bicycling (bicycle with a motor that only provides assistance when you pedal) and its potential effects on overall health. The experiment will consist of five separate sessions (up to 2.5hrs long) over seven weeks. Benefits of participating include: body composition (% body fat), fitness assessment, bone density, glucose tolerance assessment and blood lipid profile. As compensation, you will be entered into a raffle to win an electric bike.

Lavender graduation

If you are graduating this spring or next fall, we hope you will join us in celebrating the wonderful contributions and achievements of LGBTQ and Allied students at CU-Boulder. Lavender graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 5-7 p.m. at the Abrams Lounge on the 3rd floor of the Center for Community. If you are a graduate, and would like to receive a RAINBOW tassel and other fabulous recognitions, please register to participate. Deadline to sign up is Thursday, April 30, by noon.

Accepting nominations for the Tito Torres Award

Know a student who has demonstrated passion for and commitment to social justice? The University of Colorado Chancellor’s Standing Committee on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues welcomes nominations for the 2014 Tito Torres Award, given annually to a student at CU who exemplifies the spirit of Tito Torres; as a CU student, he impacted many through his commitment to and work toward social justice and uplifted many. Accepting nominations for the Joanne Arnold Award 2015

The award is given to a faculty, staff, alumnus/a, or community member who embodies the character and values of Dr. Arnold; a professor emerita, who served as the inaugural chair of the Chancellor’s Committee and inspired many through charismatic leadership, tremendous courage and unflagging optimism. Asian Language Night

Join the Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations in celebrating the languages and cultures of Asia with student performances and food. There will be presentations from each of the six language programs offered through the department: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Japanese and Korean. Wednesday, April 8. Presentations will run from 5:15-7:45 p.m. in HUMN 1B50, including an intermission, and there will be a reception in the HUMN 1st Floor Lobby from 7:45-8:45 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

The McClanahan Lecture Series
