Environmental Engineering Seminar Nov. 13

The Environmental Engineering Seminar Series is pleased to announce a presentation by Kartik Chandran, associate professor at Columbia University and 2015 MacArthur Fellowship “Genius Award” recipient. Chandran will be speaking on his recognized work on the microbial N-cycle and its links to the water, energy and carbon cycles. The seminar will take place on Friday, Nov. 13, in the Engineering Center ECCR 1B40, noon to 1 p.m. Check out this link for the abstract of his talk.

For the Health of It: 'Health Disparities Among Latin@ Immigrants'

Join us on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2 to 3 p.m. in UMC 382 for a discussion on health access and outcomes with Dr. Fernando Riosmena from the Institute of Behavioral Science. Dr. Riosmena is a leading researcher on the deterioration of immigrant health with time spent in the U.S. and will discuss the socioeconomic disadvantages, discrimination and legal complications that contribute to health disparities for Latina/o immigrants.

For the Health of It: As you are - Cultivating body positivity

Everywhere we go, every day, we are bombarded with messages about what our bodies' appearances and abilities should be, and how we should feel about our bodies if they don't live up to these standards. Join us on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1 to 2 p.m. in UMC 416 for a discussion with local psychotherapist, educator and activist Carmen Cool around how we can challenge fat-phobia and other negative messaging and begin to practice self-love and cultivate our own senses of body positivity.
