Chinese New Year Gala

The 2013 Chinese New Year Festival is coming. Please come to celebrate this festival, and enjoy Chinese food, watch excellent performances and possibly win a prize. The event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 5-9 p.m. in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. Tickets will be distributed from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 and Feb. 6 in the loggia of UMC. One ticket per person, however you can get two with your Buff OneCard. A few tickets will be reserved on the activity day.

Live alpacas at the UMC Fountain!

Friday, April 26, 2-5 p.m. Meet, greet and learn about the huacaya alpaca. Audiences will learn about the transformation of natural fibers growing on the alpaca to a finished, warm, luxurious scarf or shawl! Their luxurious fleece is often compared to cashmere. Alpacas are smaller cousins of camels and llamas. Native to South America, alpacas are well suited to Colorado. They are ecologically sound and easy to maintain and are gentle, inquisitive and intelligent. You will meet two alpacas from southwest Weld County.

Greenhouse Tour

Thursday, April 25, 1 & 3 p.m. Join University of Colorado Greenhouse Manager Tom Lemieux for an exclusive tour of CU’s 30th Street greenhouse, 1380 30th St. Each of the two tours can accommodate 20 guests. RSVP required. The greenhouse is not typically open to the public. Tours fill quickly. RSVP by calling the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History at 303.492.6892. Parking is limited and regulated, however the greenhouse is on the Creek Path and is easily accessed by bike, transit or on foot.

Lecture: The Renaissance of Mesa Verde Pottery

Thursday, March 7, 7 p.m. Clint Swink has been creating Anasazi and Maya pottery replicas for 25+ years. His pioneering efforts led to the rediscovery of lost Anasazi ceramics of which he is now considered to be the only living master. His dedication to accuracy has created a new school of art, an alternative to artifacts, and global recognition of the value of authentic ceramic replication. His work has been featured by Ceramics Monthly, American Archaeology, National Geographic, History Channel and PBS.

Exhibition Opening Reception & Lecture - Ancient Southwest: Peoples, Pottery, & Place

Weds., Feb. 27, 6 p.m. at CU Museum of Natural History The Museum's newest exhibition will kickoff with an opening reception. A members-only private tour will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a public reception at 6:30 p.m. and a lecture by University of Colorado Museum of Natural History Curator of Anthropology Steve Lekson at 7 p.m. The exhibition will include a display of more than 100 pots from the museum's collection. It will also highlight the southwestern landscape of the ancients by aerial photographer Adriel Heisey.

Love to Bake and Want to Volunteer?

Challah for Hunger is a national organization that seeks to raise awareness about hunger in impoverished countries. We meet each week to bake and sell challah, a traditional Jewish bread, and then donate the profits. Come help us bake on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at the Hillel house on Colorado and 28th! Everyone is welcome!
