Family therapy for youth with mood problems

The Colorado Family Project, a group of clinicians and researchers at CU, is conducting a study of family-based therapy for youth with mood swings and a family history of bipolar disorder. Treatment focuses on helping youth and their families understand and cope with mood swings, develop plans for preventing moods from getting worse, communicate more effectively and solve family problems. Treatment is free of charge, and families are compensated for participation in regular research interviews.

Peace Corps info session - Oct. 3

Adriel Hesisey Presentation Cancelled

Apologies from the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History. The Sept. 26, presentation "Places of Meaning, Moments of Wonder: Photographing the Ancient Southwest from the Air" with photographer Adriel Heisey has been CANCELLED. It will not be rescheduled. Heisey's photos however are on display at the museum through April 14, 2014 as a part of the exhibition "Ancient Southwest: Peoples, Pottery and Place."

Scott Ortman, free AIA lecture

Scott Ortman,(Department of Anthropology) will present a free Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) lecture, “Winds from the North: resolving one of the great mysteries in American archaeology,” 7 p.m., Wed., Oct. 2, at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History. The origins of the Northern Rio Grande Pueblos and the collapse of Mesa Verde society represent two iconic episodes in American archaeology. Despite a century of research however, there is still not a consensus on how, or even if, these two events are related.

Creative drop-in workshop: "Insects as Art" with Jill Powers

At her “Insects as Art” drop-in workshop, Local Environmental Artist Jill Powers will share her passion for creating and using natural materials, such as Kozo, a soft inner tree bark from Thailand, to create art that is inspired by nature. Participants, working with Powers, will create unique and artistic insects and learn how insect life inspires her work. Powers’ installation, “Trees and Insects in a Time of Change,” is on display at the museum through Oct. 26, 2013. It explores the mysteries and complexities of insect life.

Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Middle East. Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for language study and international research. The application deadline is Jan. 28, 2014.
