Quilters

Quilters is a moving celebration of American womanhood originally developed at the Denver Center Theatre Company. It went on to Broadway and a Tony Award nomination. This musical tribute to the spirit of America’s pioneer women tells stories — elicited through quilt blocks — of a mother and her daughters in a rich mosaic, capturing beauty, terror and joy, the harsh challenges and sweet rewards of frontier life.

Three Sisters

This fresh, 90-minute version of Anton Chekhov’s timeless story of family, love and ambition explores the difficulties in breaking old habits and seeking new opportunities. The Prozorov sisters and those around them have all learned to cope with the hand life has dealt them, despite their endless desire to return to their hometown of Moscow. These three extraordinary sisters know all too well that life’s a gamble, but are any willing to risk everything on an unsure bet?

Keyboardist Chick Corea and banjoist Béla Fleck will take you on an enchanting journey from blues to bluegrass, country to classical. Settle

The harried complexities in the life of a 21st-century woman involve the delicate balance of multi-tasking as she endeavors to “have it all.” This cultural ideal haunts us and we are often shadowed by guilt if we cannot achieve this impossible task. Yet what happens if we are given no choice but to take a step back and do less, to let the dust settle? Film, dance and your great grandmother’s best china collide in Settle, an evening-length dance work in which MFA candidate Rachel Oliver attempts to understand and unwind these expectations.

The College of Music’s choirs, orchestra, ensembles and faculty soloists invite you to share this joyous celebration of the season with your family and friends.

Family therapy for youth with mood problems

The Colorado Family Project, a group of clinicians and researchers at CU, is conducting a study of family-based therapy for youth with mood swings and a family history of bipolar disorder. Treatment focuses on helping youth and their families understand and cope with mood swings, develop plans for preventing moods from getting worse, communicate more effectively and solve family problems. Treatment is free of charge, and families are compensated for participation in regular research interviews.
