Film showing: Beijing Bicycle

Free film viewing: open to all students, staff and faculty. Please join us for a screening and post-film discussion of the award-winning, Chinese film: "Beijing Bicycle." The plot revolves around a 17-year-old country boy working in Beijing as a courier, who has his bicycle stolen and then finds it in the hands of a schoolboy. The film explores the themes of youth, social issues, delinquency, socio-economic divisions and change. Mon., Nov. 11, 2:30 p.m., Wolf Law 206. Metamorphoses

Based on Ovid’s transformation myths, 10 actors mix ancient stories of pathos and tragedy with contemporary language and humor. Encapsulated by the story of Midas, whose gift from the gods becomes a terrible curse, the tales flow one into another creating a theatrical event that is as extraordinarily moving as it is beautiful to behold. Performed in and around a large pool, these heartbreaking, comical and often erotic stories are told through acts of physical prowess and stunning theatricality.

Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra

Led by one of the greatest jazz pianists of the last half-century, the Salsa Orchestra offers innovation even as it honors the Latin orchestral tradition. 'The Rope'

The Rope (rõp): (n) 1. An implement by which tug-of-war is played, a tool for struggle. 2. A modern update of the Roman play, "The Rope" follows Plesidippus as he tries to free the girl he loves, Palaestra, from the pirate pimp Labrax and his transgender parrot Hedonagee. Like its ancient counterpart, this play is dirty, racy and calls into question gender and power roles.

'Fahrenheit 451' by Aquila Theatre

Ray Bradbury’s disturbingly prescient, dystopian, yet ultimately hopeful tale of censorship and the narcotic effects of media comes alive in this brilliant stage adaptation from New York’s “classically trained, modernly hip” Aquila Theatre. 'Hansel & Gretel'

Engelbert Humperdinck’s classic opera "Hansel and Gretel" features the classic tale of two children, the witch and the gingerbread house set to beautiful melodies.
