CMA's exploring diversity through film series

What Darwin didn't know: The new science of evo devo & the origins of animal diversity

The new field of evolutionary developmental biology (evo devo) seeks to understand how new animal groups arise by understanding how the process of development has evolved in different lineages. Daniel Medeiros will be presenting an intro to the field of evo devo and discussing several compelling examples of how relatively simple changes in developmental processes have lead to the evolution of new structures such as the vertebrate skull, bat wings, and the snake spine. At first glance, the tranquil valleys and mountain passes of the western Argolid give the appearance being of a rather isolated and unremarkable region in southern Greece. Want to know what it is like in reality? Join Dimitri Nakassis for an analysis of the historical record and extensive archaeological remains showing that the western Argolid was a dynamic landscape whose study sheds new light on big questions in Greek archaeology. One Billion Rising to end violence against women & girls on Feb. 14

One Billion Rising is coming to campus. Join this movement to help prevent violence against women and girls on Friday, Feb 14. Join us from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the UMC for a series of One Billion Rising events that include read-ins, yoga, Guy Talk, a film screening, theater and more. This event is open to campus and community members of all ages. Rooms will be announced on site. RSVP
