Start smart salary negotiation workshop

Will you be looking for a job in the next few months? Do you want to learn skills to negotiate a higher salary and better benefits? This workshop focuses on salary negotiation, skill-building exercises and teaches participants how to develop a personal budget to determine salary needs. Left Right Tim and Engineers Without Borders benefit night March 14

Left Right Tim is an (award-winning) improv group here on campus. On Friday, March 14, at 8 p.m. in Hale 270, they will host a benefit show for Engineers Without Borders-CU Rwanda where all proceeds from ticket sales will go towards EWB projects in Cyanika, Rwanda. Tickets are only $3 and are available at the door. Doors open at 7:30p.m. Make sure to stop by.

The inaugural Distinguished Lecture: Bruce Babbitt

Bruce Babbitt will give the inaugural Distinguished Lecture “Are Colorado Public Lands Becoming a Sacrifice Zone for Oil and Gas?” on Monday, March 17, at 5:30 p.m. in the Wittemyer Courtroom, Wolf Law Building. The Distinguished Lecture Series was designed as a cooperative venture between the Getches-Wilkinson Center and the Environmental Law Review to bring to the University of Colorado a distinguished figure in the field of natural resource, energy, and environmental law and policy.

Feminist literary collective - March

Interested in expanding your feminist horizons? Come and join the Women’s Resource Center book club as we read and discuss a selected text each month surrounding pertinent women’s issues as they intersect with race, class, gender and sexuality. The book club encourages open and free discussion. It is a great way to start reading again if you have not done so in a while, as well as engage in conversation feminist-friends-to-be. Join us Friday, March 21, from 1-3 p.m. in UMC 416 to discuss "Ceremony" by Leslie Marmon Silko.

'Feminist: Stories from Women's Liberation' screening March 19

The Women’s Resource Center presents "Feminist: Stories from Women's Liberation," a film by Jennifer Lee. The film will be screened March 19, at 6 p.m. in UMC 457 in collaboration with the Dennis Small Cultural Center. This documentary takes a look at the Women’s Liberation Movement beginning after WWII up to the mid-1970s. It highlights the intersections of civil rights and the beginnings of the women’s liberation/feminist movements; Lee seeks to teach us the ways in which feminism and liberation have come to be understood in the U.S.

Asian American feminism

Asian Women’s movements in the United States are often forgotten or misunderstood as discussions on Twitter by #NotYourAsianSidekick displays. Join Ruvini DeFonseka and Sandra No from the Women’s Resource Center and Karen Shimamoto from SORCE as they discuss the histories of Asian Women’s movements in the United States and where we are today as a country. Learn how we can all be better allies to Asian Women in activism and work toward creating a more inclusive feminist movement. Hope to see you Tuesday, March 18, from 4-5 p.m. in UMC 415-417.

Literary SHEroes

How is the female hero constructed and what makes the feminist novel? Come participate in a symposium put on by the WRC, in conjunction with graduate students from the English department, which will deconstruct familiar literary tropes of women, while encouraging you to think about your own “SHEroes” with a fun activity to write creatively and channel inspiration from your favorite authors. Please join us in an open discussion and keep your favorite heroines in mind. We hope to see you on March17, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in UMC 416.
