As the world’s major trading route, the Mediterranean holds a vast record of history within its depths. Join Bob Hohlfelder, professor emeritus of history, for a fascinating discussion about underwater archaeology. With over 50 underwater archeological expeditions throughout 13 Mediterranean countries, Hohlfelder is an expert specializing in Roman harbors and shipwrecks. The concept of “terraforming” other planets has been around for at least 80 years. Join David Brain, from the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Dairy Center for a discussion about what it would really take to “terraform Mars” and a screening of the 1990 sci-fi film, Total Recall. RUSS 2211 will give students a broad overview of Russian culture in its historical context, from its beginnings to the end of the Romanov dynasty, focusing on the significant events and fascinating individuals that helped to shape Russia into the unique country it is today. Russia’s contribution to world culture, in architecture, literature and the arts, will be a primary focus. This course will also provide a good foundation for further Russian studies. Course taught in English. Fulfills Core Curriculum for Historical Context.

Looking for college students ages 18 - 22 to participate in paid study ($60) on brain development. Study takes three hours total: one hour for consent and orientation, one hour for questionnaires, and one hour performing tasks inside an MRI scanner. Eligibility requirements include right-handedness, no neurological disorders, no non-removable metal in or on body (retainers and tooth fillings are okay), and must meet additional MRI safety requirements.
