Learn a language: Non-credit classes at ALTEC

The Anderson Language Technology Center (ALTEC) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for spring language classes. These classes are non-credit and are open to the CU Staff, Faculty, Graduate Students, Retirees and their spouses. Classes begin Jan. 26 and meet two hrs/week for 8 weeks. Tuition is only $75. This spring choose from various levels of French, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Swahili and Swedish. *Note: French 4 is a 10 week class with an increased rate of $93 and will run through April 10.

Caught in the cross-publics of the 'Muslimwoman'

Renowned Columbia University professor of anthropology, Lila Abu-Lughod, will offer the 2015 Distinguished Lecture in Cultural Anthropology on Feb. 13, 4 p.m. in 230 Hale. Author of the 1986 classic "Veiled Sentiments," on emotion and gender among Egyptian bedouins, Abu-Lughod is synonymous with theoretically sophisticated and ethnographically rich scholarship. Her talk will analyze public reaction to her recent book, "Do Muslim Women Need Saving?," a book intended to counter inaccurate media representations about Muslim women and their rights.

Apply now! Puksta Scholars Program

An undergraduate civic engagement program, CU Boulder's Puksta Scholars Program is accepting applications for the 2015-2016 academic year. Emerging sophomores or juniors, who have a strong commitment to civic responsibility and seek to create positive social change on campus and in the greater community are encouraged to apply. A limited number of $4,500 annual scholarships will be provided. Applications, which may be accessed via www.colorado.edu/cuengage will be accepted through Jan. 31.

ACCESS Registration for nondegree students begins Jan. 9

Nondegree students interested in enrolling in CU-Boulder courses for personal or professional development can register through ACCESS, Available Credit Courses for Eligible Special Students, on Friday, Jan. 9 and Monday, Jan. 12. Through ACCESS, nondegree students may take main campus graduate and undergraduate courses if space is available or with instructor/department permission. Continuing Education advisors will accommodate walk-in appointments surrounding ACCESS registration through Friday, Jan. 16. For more information call 492-5148.

City of Lafayette's 10th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during Lafayette's 10th annual March for Peace and Celebration on Jan. 19. The event, which is co-sponsored by CU-Boulder's Public Achievement program, will commence with a community march at 12 p.m. (Community members are encouraged to meet outside of the Lafayette Recreation Center at 111 W. Baseline Road by 11:45 a.m.) A celebration, featuring live entertainment and service projects will be held at Flatirons Community Church (355 W. South Boulder Road) from 12:30-3:00 p.m.

Panama is considered the fourth strongest economy in Latin America and one of the top 20 fastest growing economies in the world. However, strong economic performance has not translated into broadly shared prosperity. Participate in this Global Seminar to partner with local entrepreneurs and learn first-hand about the potential for business solutions to address poverty and related social and environmental challenges.
