Caught in the cross-publics of the 'Muslimwoman'

Renowned Columbia University professor of anthropology, Lila Abu-Lughod, will offer the 2015 Distinguished Lecture in Cultural Anthropology on Feb. 13, 4 p.m. in 230 Hale. Author of the 1986 classic "Veiled Sentiments," on emotion and gender among Egyptian bedouins, Abu-Lughod is synonymous with theoretically sophisticated and ethnographically rich scholarship. Her talk will analyze public reaction to her recent book, "Do Muslim Women Need Saving?," a book intended to counter inaccurate media representations about Muslim women and their rights.
