A & S Core Course for Spring 2015: RUSS 2231-010 Fairy Tales of Russia

Where do fairy tales come from, what do they tell us and why do they continue to be a source of inspiration for artists and writers? We will study Russian fairy tales, starting with nonsense and animal tales, moving to coming-of-age “magic tales” that give us insight into the nature of human desire. We'll consider these stories in contexts of Russian folk belief, high culture and global popular culture. Student research assistant/ M-Turk programmers

The Banich Lab in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience and the Institute of Cognitive Science is looking for research assistants for spring 2015 and beyond. The Banich lab studies the psychological and brain mechanisms that allow us to multitask, problem solve, reason, and other executive functions. We are looking for bright, talented students looking to gain research experience. In particular, we are looking for student programmers to adapt experiments for Mechanical Turk (skills in javascript/ python required).

The Center of the American West is proud to host a screening of Losing the West a documentary about small ranching and farming, exemplified by the story of Howard Linscotta, a lifelong Colorado cowboy. With sweeping shots of the Colorado Rockies, the film explores whether cherished Western traditions and this fiercely independent lifestyle can survive as they collide with inevitable population growth in the West and its dwindling natural resources. Modern Indian Identity Film Screening: 'Winter in the Blood'

The Center of the American West’s Modern Indian Identity series is thrilled to present filmmakers Andrew and Alex Smith and their movie, Winter in the Blood for a free screening and conversation. The event will take place Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m. in Eaton Humanities, room 1B50. Following the film NPR film critic Howie Movshovitz, the Center of the American West Faculty Director Patty Limerick, and Alex and Andrew Smith will engage in a discussion about the film and the issues it raises.
