Round and Round and Up and Down: an MFA dance production, Oct. 10-11, 7 p.m., Fiske Planetarium Legos and eyeballs and time travel, oh my! Michelle Bernier's MFA performance is described as "kid-friendly and adult-friendlier," using science, math, storytelling and movement to explore how spirals interact with different fields and disciplines of human knowledge. CU on the Weekend, Oct. 31: Pestilence: Past and Present

Join Pulitzer Prize-Winning Professor Elizabeth Fenn, chair of history, for a talk about the great smallpox epidemic of 1775-82 and an interactive discussion about the impact of infectious disease, past and present. Fenn's books Pox Americana and Encounters at the Heart of the World will be available for purchase. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Buff Bicycle Classic Scholarship Fund. CU on the Weekend Oct. 24: Gershwin Meets Schubert - Words, Music, and Song

Why is the combination of words and music—song—such a powerful medium? Join music theory professors Keith Waters and Yonatan Malin for a discussion that looks at two specific genres, the American popular songbook and German lied, and points out some features of songs that make them enduring. Includes performances of songs by George Gershwin, Franz Schubert, Albert von Tilzer and Irving Berlin. Saturday, Oct. 24, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Imig Music Building. Part of CU on the Weekend, which is free and open to the public.

Nature Church - Sunday, Oct. 9

Experience Nature as "Church." Weather permitting. Occasional outings on the rugged trails surrounding Boulder. We'll have brief moments of setting intention, reflection, prayer, pondering and alternative forms of communion. Should be able to walk up to 4 miles in the high country - depending on the week. Meet at CU's Wesley Student Center/Chapel, 1290 Folsom St. at 9:15 a.m. We'll carpool and return by noon. "The mountains are calling and I must go." Global seminar in Istanbul, Turkey, summer 2016

Spend two weeks next summer in Istanbul, exploring its multi-ethnic history with Professor Nan Goodman. This two-week, three-credit global seminar will give you the opportunity to learn about Jewish-Muslim relations alongside local university students, and visit numerous cultural landmarks (including a Dervish Lodge). Open to all majors; learn more (including details about pre-program classes on campus in the spring) at an informational meeting with the director on Monday, Oct. 12, 5 to 6 p.m. in the C4C S341. Volunteer with Ralphie’s Green Stampede

Join Ralphie’s Green Stampede at home football games and help us keep Folsom a zero-waste stadium. Volunteers get free entrance to the game, a meal and a T-Shirt for staffing zero-waste stations throughout the stadium to educate football fans about the importance and impact of composting and recycling. Volunteers are on the front line to divert waste from the landfill, helping us get to our goal of 90 percent diversion. Come as an individual, with friends or as an organization and check out what the zero-waste excitement is all about.

Four Provost's Fellowship in Information Science Awards available

The Provost’s Fellowship in Information Science at CU-Boulder Libraries provides outstanding CU-Boulder graduate students with the opportunity to expand their understanding of libraries’ and librarians’ roles in the evolving information ecosystem. Over the course of the spring semester, fellows will work with library faculty to explore the intersections of people, technology and information. Fellows receive an award of $3,000. Submit documentation to the Graduate Teacher Program by Oct. 31. Application.
