McClanahan Lecture Series Feb. 22

Forgotten cities hidden in plain sight: archaeology and ancient landscapes in Greece presented by Professor Dimitri Nakassis on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. in HUMN 1B50. Archaeology is usually associated with excavation, a process that brings the past into the present by peeling away layers, revealing ancient surfaces and structures along with their associated artifacts. In places like Rome and Athens, there is a city beneath the city: ancient monuments of stone underneath the modern concrete jungle.

Student Employee of the Year nominations due Friday

The deadline to submit a student for Student Employee of the Year is this Friday, Feb. 17. Work-study, hourly and salaried student employees are eligible. First place will receive Buff gear donated by the CU Book Store and will be nominated for the Western Association of Student Employment Administrators Award. Irish Music Club

Seeking students with an interest in Irish music to begin a traditional music club The proposed club would meet weekly or biweekly to play together and learn new tunes. Fools For a Day: Shane Mauss, Adam Bradley and Peter McGraw

So a stand-up comic, a literary scholar and a behavioral scientist walk into a lecture hall, and a Western American historian hands them the question, "What’s so funny about pop music?" To hear the answer, along with an abundance of punch lines, plan to attend the Rock, Rap and Laughter event yourself on Wednesday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Old Main Chapel.

Short video competition: Comedy for climate change

In this call, we seek to harness the powers of climate comedy through compelling, resonant and meaningful VIDEOS—up to 3 minutes in length—to meet people where they are and open them up to new and creative engagement. We are especially interested in pieces that deal with issues related to the American West. The winning entry will receive a cash prize and be shown during the upcoming Stand Up for Climate: An Experiment with Creative Climate Comedy night. Fools for a Day Award: Ian and Cora Frazier

Father and daughter duo Ian Frazier and Cora Frazier, humorists who write for The New Yorker magazine as well as a host of other outlets, will join Patty Limerick for a discussion about applying humor to a range of contemporary issues. Don’t expect a dour evening filled with flow charts and analytics. This night will feature free-roaming conversations, jokes, readings, plenty of laughter and perhaps even a surprise treat for the audience!
