Welcome back, Buffs! Stop by these neighborhood events on the Hill and in East Aurora to get tips and learn more about living in the Boulder community. Hosted by Off-Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations, you can find support and make connections in your neighborhood during Fall Welcome. 

The Hill event will take place 1–4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Beach Park. The East Aurora event will be held 1–4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Aurora Avenue and 28th Street.

The CU Youth Piano Program has opened the registration period for piano lessons for the fall 2024.  

Instructors are experienced graduate teachers from the College of Music. The program is supervised by the CU Piano Pedagogy Chair Alejandro Cremaschi. The lessons provide thorough instruction at the highest and most effective pedagogical standards while providing opportunities for fun, motivation and enjoyment of music. Students ​register for 14 weekly ​lessons ​during ​the ​fall ​and spring semesters.

The University of Colorado is a proud partner of the Colorado-Wyoming Climate Resilience Engine (CO-WY Engine), one of 10 inaugural awardees under the National Science Foundation (NSF) Regional Innovation Engines initiative. The CO-WY Engine announced the launch of its use-inspired and translation grant opportunities to accelerate the research, development and commercialization of innovations into tangible products, services or solutions that address climate resiliency. 

Through Lab Venture Challenge (LVC), Venture Partners at CU Boulder and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) fund the university's top innovations with grants up to $125,000 that address a commercial need, have a clear path to a compelling market and have strong scientific support. Each year, CU employees are required to verify the accuracy of their vacation and sick leave balances. Please verify your leave by Aug. 31.

Sprintax Calculus enables international employees and students to exchange information and documents with the International Tax Office, eliminating mandatory appointments.

Master’s grade changes must be submitted for incomplete courses taken during previous semesters by Monday, Aug. 12. 

The CU Survivor Club is thrilled to announce its first-ever Live Reality Game Competition, inviting participants to outwit, outplay and outlast for the coveted title of Sole Survivor. The adventure will take place Oct. 26–27 at Bear Creek Lake Park Campground.

Inspired by the iconic television show, the event aims to bring the thrill and strategy of “Survivor” to the campus community and residents in Boulder, Jefferson and surrounding counties. Contestants, aged 18 and up, are invited to apply for a chance to showcase their survival skills, mental acuity and strategic prowess in a challenging outdoor setting.

• Location: Bear Creek Lake Park Campground, 15600 Morrison Rd., Lakewood, CO
• Eligibility: Open to all individuals aged 18 and above
• Objective: Participants will compete in challenges, form alliances, and strategize to avoid elimination until one contestant remains as the Sole Survivor.

Founded in 2024, the CU Boulder Survivor Club is dedicated to bringing the excitement and strategy of the “Survivor” series to the university community. The club hosts various events and activities throughout the year to engage students and promote teamwork, strategy and adventure.

The campus VPN client, Cisco Secure Client (formerly known as AnyConnect), will undergo a version update from 6 to 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

After the update, search for “Cisco Secure Client” instead of “Cisco Anyconnect” to find and launch the VPN client. The upgrade will happen automatically during the first login process after the maintenance window, but it may take longer than usual to connect. It is recommended that all VPN and Secure Computing users restart their computer following the upgrade.

Aug. 5

Doctoral grade changes must be submitted for incomplete courses taken during previous or current semesters.

Aug. 6

Master's thesis plan students must submit the thesis and thesis approval form to ProQuest by this deadline. The thesis must be submitted electronically for review and approval by Graduate School staff by the end of the business day. The single-page thesis approval form (TAF) must be uploaded as a supplemental file with the dissertation in order for the submission to be complete. Students whose dissertations are received after this deadline, or those not submitted with the TAF, must apply to graduate at the following semester's commencement.

Please consider becoming a research participant in our study “Spatial disorientation following a gravity transition.” This study is being led by Torin Clark as part of the Bioastronautics Research Group at CU Boulder.

We are looking for subjects for an upcoming study investigating an active countermeasure triggering mechanism to reduce spatial disorientation in astronauts performing lunar landings.  This research will take place in up to two visits and a total of no more than five hours in the Aerospace Engineering Sciences building on East Campus in the Bioastronautics Lab.

You will be paid for your participation at a rate of $15/hour.  More details on the study protocol will be provided in person, prior to beginning the experiment during your session.

To participate in the study, volunteers need to:

• Be between 18–50 years of age
• Have no history of vestibular dysfunction
• Weigh less than 200 lbs
• Complete a pre-screening questionnaire confirming eligibility criteria

The Sundance Institute recently announced Boulder as a finalist to host the Sundance Film Festival starting in 2027. If selected, hosting the festival will have a significant and growing economic impact for Boulder and the state of Colorado. In 2023, the Festival contributed over $118 million to Utah’s economy while creating 1,608 jobs for residents and $63 million in wages. It also brought over 21,000 visitors from out of state.

Community members are encouraged to fill out a short four-minute survey to express your interest and impressions of hosting the Sundance Film Festival in 2027. Your responses will be confidential, and information will only be used for assessment purposes.
