Anthropology Graduate Student Speaker Series

“Learning about Neandertals and Ourselves from Ancient Genomes," Oct. 12 at 4 pm -- Hale Science 270 Professor John Hawks, Ph.D., Dept. of Anthropology, University of Wisconsin Most living people trace a fraction of their ancestry to Neandertals, and a smaller proportion trace their ancestry to a mysterious population called the Denisovans. Dr. Hawks is currently working with genomes of these archaic humans to uncover their relationships to recent human populations.

The Six Gates of Completion – A Companion in Life’s Transitions

BJ Brown will present some essentials from her book. She’ll include a brief experiential journey where you can personally explore current transitions you may be facing. Her facilitation is through a creation of what she calls soul collage. If you like, bring a couple of items that can be included in your piece, a poem, card, key...whatever calls to be represented in what will be a spontaneous, tangible mirror of your inner landscape. These questions won't be neatly answered in this workshop, but, participants will learn successful proactive organizational change strategies and discuss options to encourage a more respectful working and learning environment.
