Faculty / Staff dependent scholarships

The Boulder campus offers three scholarships for children of faculty and staff. One is funded by vending machine revenue and donations from the Pepsi Corporation. One is funded by an endowment created by a Boulder Faculty Assembly initiative with initial funding assistance from Athletics. One is funded by Elevations Credit Union. Apply for all three using one simple form. Application DEADLINES: apply by July 1, Dec. 1, and May 1 for each following semester.

The legal environment and law about the environment in China

Join us Wednesday, March 13, at 4 p.m. in Humanities 135 for a lecture by two experts on Chinese law: Benjamin L. Liebman, the Robert L. Lieff Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Chinese Legal Studies at Columbia University and Alex Wang, Visiting Assistant Professor of Law at Boalt Law School at the University of California, Berkeley and previously a senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) based in Beijing and director of NRDC’s China Environmental Law & Governance Project in China.

Rape and sexual violence in contemporary India

Monday, March 11 at 4 p.m., Atlas 100 The recent gang rape of a young woman in New Delhi on Dec. 16, 2012 and her subsequent death attracted worldwide attention and provoked mass protests against sexual assault, not just in India but also in other countries in South Asia. In this talk, Dr Seema Khanwalkar will present her analysis of the widespread debate among academics, women’s groups, the media and the broader public on the status of women in India. Chinese tourists in Taiwan: Tourism and state territoriality

Monday, March 11 at noon in Guggenheim 201E This brown bag event will feature a talk by Ian Rowen, Ph.D. candidate, Department of Geography. After years of travel bans, and despite an ongoing dispute over sovereignty and territory, Chinese tourists have poured into Taiwan since 2008. Tourism is producing multiple sensations of stateness in Taiwan and exacerbating contradictions between China and Taiwan’s programs of state territorialization.

Mike Yanker retirement party

Mike Yanker has served as campus asbestos coordinator for well over two decades. He has decided to retire effective March 15, 2013. Mike has been a fixture on campus and has worked hard to keep all of us safe from asbestos exposure. So, please join Environmental Health & Safety in wishing him well in his retirement. We have planned a reception for him in the EH&S Conference Room (220) this Friday, March 8, from 2-4 p.m.
