Thompson Writing Awards now accepting submissions

Are you a CU student working on a research paper, essay, poem or short story that touches on a topic specific to the American West? Are you writing about public lands, Native American issues, immigration, water or wildfire? Center of the American West is seeking entries for the Thompson Awards for Western American Writing. Winners will receive $500 and read their piece at an awards banquet attended by contest judges and community members. See our website for details and to read previous years' winning entries.

Fun research projects for kids

The Cognitive Development Center in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is looking for children age birth to 12 years old who are interested in playing games that will help teach us about language self control and cognitive strategies. A visit, scheduled at your convenience, lasts about 60 minutes. Babysitting is available for siblings. Parents are compensated for travel, and kids receive a fun prize. UROP applications due Feb. 17

Looking to get involved in undergraduate research? The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) deadline for applications is Feb. 17 for all grant types (see below). Assistantships are $2,000 for summer awards and $1,000 for academic year awards. Individual grants are $3,000 for summer awards and $1,500 for academic year awards. Participants needed in sports study: $10 per hour

Healthy male participants ages 18 to 28 are needed for a speech research study examining speech in athletes competing in a variety of sports (e.g., football, soccer, swimming, track) and comparing data for high- versus low- and no-contact sports. $10 per hour in compensation is provided.
