The university is accepting applications for an associate vice chancellor and chief of staff, who will support Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Rourke and the members of the Strategic Resources and Support division.
O’Rourke oversees SRS, which encompasses CU Boulder’s business, communications, enrollment management, facilities management, finance, human resources, public safety and information technology priorities. The division works to enhance and support the university’s academic and research missions in partnership with the chancellor and the provost.
The individual selected for this key senior leadership role on campus will succeed Abby Benson, who previously held the position and recently served as deputy chief operating officer. Benson is stepping down to accept a senior advisory role at the University of Rhode Island.
Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for the associate vice chancellor and chief of staff position and can find more details about this unique opportunity by visiting the internal job board.
The deadline for submitting an application is Dec. 3, and applicants should include a cover letter that specifically outlines how their experience and background aligns with the requirements, qualifications and responsibilities of this leadership position.
The new AVC and chief of staff to the COO will provide support and guidance on efforts that span across the SRS division and the campus. Successful candidates will possess high-level leadership skills, the ability to provide strategic insights and a proven track record for implementing organizational initiatives, O’Rourke said.
“The AVC and chief of staff serves a crucial role in our organization. As the SRS team works with our partners across the campus, the chief of staff helps to ensure that we are serving the campus community well,” O’Rourke said. “I’ve relied upon the person serving in this role to help us advance important campus initiatives and look forward to hiring someone who can help us move forward in accomplishing Chancellor DiStefano’s objectives.”
As currently envisioned, the role exercises formal oversight over the CU Boulder Office of Government and Community Engagement and the transformation team. However, these roles may be reassigned depending upon the successful candidate’s skills and interests.
Strategic Relations and Communications seeks undergraduates to participate in 75- to 90-minute focus groups being held between Dec. 2 and Dec. 7. The focus groups will be conveniently held on Zoom.
We want to hear your opinions about different CU Boulder communications and branding. Participation is confidential, and all responses will be anonymous.
As a token of appreciation, we are offering each participant a $20 Amazon gift card.
Please use the link below to find a date and time that works for you and reserve your spot. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis––so sign up today!

The Engaged Arts and Humanities Graduate Student Scholars program helps graduate students apply the tools of their academic disciplines and their unique interests to community-engaged scholarship projects (outreach, research, teaching and/or creative work), and provides funding for this work. A key program goal is to develop a strong cohort and community of learners committed to equity-oriented community partnerships. Students should have an interest in and ability to apply the tools of an arts and humanities discipline and their life experience to work with Colorado communities beyond the university.
We encourage applicants with diverse perspectives and at varied stages of their development as community-engaged scholars, from new to experienced, to apply by Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, to become part of the 2022–23 cohort. Please see the program information page for the application link and info session dates.
