Global seminar: Discovering urban China - summer 2017

Spend your Maymester in China exploring the cultural identity of three China's most famous and historic cities: Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou. Interact with Chinese peers both in and outside the classroom and gain firsthand knowledge on the ways modernity has affected urban China! This is a competitive program due to the generous Tang Fund scholarship through the Center for Asian Studies available to all admitted participants. Study building construction in the beautiful city of Valencia this summer. While earning credit for AREN 2050, you can examine world-renowned architectural works in Spain. A two-day field trip to Barcelona is also included, along with various excursions in and around Valencia. The course counts as a technical elective for many engineering majors. Students earn three Humanities (or elective) credits through lectures and visits to major sites in and near Rome. Spend your Maymester walking, talking, eating and exploring in central Rome! Spend three weeks with CU Boulder’s Suzanne Magnanini in Italy, exploring Florence’s historic streets. Learn about Dante, his inferno, paintings and frescoes inspired by the poem. The course fulfills upper-division Literature & the Arts core and counts toward the Italian major and minor. You don't have to know Italian to spend part of your summer studying in Italy.
