Tell your students about entrepreneurship in South Africa this summer 

Students can spend six weeks this summer in South Africa gaining hands on experience as a consultant helping emerging entrepreneurs in the townships surrounding Cape Town. A South African entrepreneur, Luvuyo, will share how his business has grown as a client of this program. Earn six credits, open to all majors. Opening reception: (Re)Collecting: Translating Archive and Excavating Memory

New exhibit on display Jan. 21 in the CU Museum of Natural History’s BioLounge. For the past few months, several second year MFA candidates in the CU Art and Art History Program have spent time visiting the collections and meeting with curators and collections managers at the CU Museum of Natural History. They have produced new artwork in response to the process of collecting, storing and sharing a rich and diverse cultural archive. The public can meet the artists from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Open house runs 5 to 7 p.m.

The Cretaceous West: Dinosaur Distribution and Movement on the Lost Landmass of Laramidia

Join Joseph Sertich, PhD, curator of vertebrate paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for a free lecture Tuesday, Jan 19, 7 pm at the CU Natural History Museum. The dinosaurs of the Western Interior are among the best known and diverse assemblages in the world, with over a century of discovery and exploration from Alaska to Mexico. However, new discoveries from Utah and New Mexico have cast new light onto our assumptions of dinosaur distributions and movements approximately 75 million years ago, revealing unexpected patterns.

Global seminar in Istanbul, Turkey, summer 2016

Spend two weeks next summer in Istanbul, exploring its multi-ethnic history with professor Nan Goodman. This two-week, three credit global seminar will give you the opportunity to learn about Jewish-Muslim relations alongside local university students, and visit numerous cultural landmarks (including a Dervish Lodge). Open to all majors; learn more (including details about pre-program classes on campus in the spring) at an informational meeting with the director on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 5 to 6 p.m. in the C4C N215. Labor compliance in Bangladesh’s garment sector

This Luncheon Series talk will be presented by Jennifer Bair. Drawing from field research and interviews with government officials, factory owners and labor leaders in Bangladesh, as well as with the U.S. and European brands and retailers that are purchasing the products made there, this talk answers three questions relating to the influences of the Rana Plaza industrial accident on working conditions in Bangladesh and on global supply chains.
