Faculty Development Workshop: Teaching Critical Thinking

Attend a faculty development workshop on Teaching Critical Thinking with former Vice Provost Michael Grant, Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1 to 5 p.m. All five rostered ranks and all disciplines are eligible; first-time participants only. Each attendee will receive a $400 extra pay stipend; attendance is limited to 15 participants. We will use the NSF-developed Critical Thinking Analysis Test (CAT) to analyze CU student responses. MALfunction: A series of events pairing an artist and researcher whose works raise similar questions about technology. Free and open to the public. #1: Mediated Intimacy, Sept. 15, 6:30 p.m. - Museum of Natural History, CU Boulder Artist: Isaac Oliver will read technology-related selections from his book, Intimacy Idiot, on being a "young, fanciful, and extremely single gay man in NYC." Researcher: Amy Hasinoff will discuss research for her book Sexting Panic, on sexual consent via the medium of sexting.

Animated innovation: The marriage of art, storytelling and technology at Dreamworks Animation

Featured in the credits of the 13 DreamWorks movies, CU Boulder engineering alumnus, Rob Sherwood, shares his high-level perspective on the growth of the animation industry and the technologies that have made this innovation possible. He will discuss current animation processes and offer a sneak peek at the technologies in the pipeline that promise the next chapter of transformation. Friday, Sept. 9, 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Atlas 100. Sleep and the emotional brain: A study for 5-year-olds

Ever wondered how sleep affects child brain development and how children express their emotions? The CU Sleep and Development Laboratory is looking for 5-year-olds who typically sleep 9 hours or less at night. Families will be compensated for participating.
