CCW listening lunch

CU Museum of Natural History summer workshop registration open

Registration now open. Spend Friday mornings with us exploring and creating. Our newest exhibit Becoming Butterflies will be our jumping-off point to cross-pollinate science and art. Your elementary-age child will visit exhibits, participate in hands-on creative activities with real museum tools and specimens and move through natural areas outside of the museum. Each workshop meets for three hours from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the CU Museum of Natural History on the CU-Boulder Campus. Healthy snacks will be provided. Each workshop is $30.

Graduation reminders

You must have regalia to participate in commencement. Undergraduates should purchase regalia at the bookstore, while graduate students may rent regalia at Balch Fieldhouse. See the commencement website for details. Please line up in Norlin Quad by 7:45 a.m. for the procession or come early and enjoy a free breakfast starting at 7 a.m. Congratulations.

Graduating in May?

Please make an appointment to see your advisor and submit your application. Check the commencement website for updated information, including details about the ceremony, caps and gowns, announcements, disability services, parking and other events. Grads will also receive detailed information via email in the coming weeks.

Leading thinker on cooperative economies to speak at CU-Boulder

Michel Bauwens, an eminent Belgian peer-to-peer theorist focusing on technology, culture and business innovation, will speak on Tuesday, April 5. He will discuss the role of media platforms in the transformation of civic, market and state forms toward a contribution-based and commons-oriented economy. Tibetan Arts Week

Tibetan Arts Week is April 4-10, coinciding with the Conference on World Affairs. The Tibet Himalaya Initiative is honored to host Gonkar Gyatso, a key figure in contemporary Tibetan art, and Dorje Tsering Chenaktsang, also known as Jangbu, a Tibetan poet and filmmaker. Public events include an advance screening of Jangbu's forthcoming film, Voices from the Stone, poetry readings and an art installation by Gonkar Gyatso. All events are free and open to the public. Sponsored by CU's Tibet Himalaya Initiative and the Center for Asian Studies.

Poetry reading and film screening with Tibetan poet, Jangbu

Tibetan Arts Week includes a film screening by Dorje Tsering Chenaktsang. Known widely as Jangbu, he is a leading Tibetan poet who has recently taken up directing documentary films, including Kokonor (2008) and Yartsa Rinpoche (2014). On Thursday, April 7, Jangbu will show and discuss his current work-in-progress, the film Voices of the Stone, which concerns mining in Central Tibet, followed by a Q & A. The film will screen at 6:30 p.m. in Humanities 135 and is free and open to the public.

'Buddha in the Bathroom: Appropriation and Pop Culture in Contemporary Tibetan Art'

Born in Lhasa, educated in mainland China, and resident of the UK, the trajectory of contemporary artist Gonkar Gyatso reflects the dynamics—and pressures—of modern Tibetan life. His unconventional images offer iconic commentaries on the commodification of Tibetan Buddhism. Gyatso’s public lecture, “Buddha in the Bathroom: Appropriation and Pop Culture in Contemporary Tibetan Art” begins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5 in Hale 270. Co-sponsored by Tibet Himalaya Initiative and the Center for Asian Studies.
