Off-Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations is hiring neighborhood ambassadors for University Hill.

The role

Hill neighborhood ambassadors (NA) serve as student leaders, assisting off-campus student tenants with their transition to the University Hill area and, for the majority of Hill student tenants, assistance with their first time living off-campus. NAs provide a network of support for CU students and members of the neighborhood at large by serving as a mentor; connecting students to campus resources; planning programs that will aid in community building efforts; and working with Off-Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations and other campus offices to plan, promote and implement initiatives specifically focused on off-campus student tenants.

Responsibilities

• Be available to attend monthly staff meetings, coordinate programming, and devote approximately 5–10 hours (10 hours maximum) per week to the position
• Serve as a role model, advocate, and mentor for off-campus student interests, needs, and rights              
• Help off-campus students make connections to campus resources, academic resources, and student organizations on campus
• Maintain contact with your assigned neighborhood area, which may include both students, community members, and community police officers (via face‐to‐face, email, phone, etc.)

Eligibility requirements

• Maintain good academic standing with your college and be a full‐time registered sophomore, junior or senior at the start of the fall 2018 semester
• Student must be residing in housing for the 2018-19 academic year within the University Hill neighborhood area
• Willingness and ability to model personal behavior consistent with the CU Colorado Creed, goal‐setting and mentoring for off-campus students
• Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team

Time commitment/compensation

• Approximately 5–10 hours per week (10 hours maximum); additional hours may be needed for special events
• $11/hour for up to 10 hours a week

Do you want to participate in a study about cognition, emotions and resilience? Are you a teen ages 15–19?

At the Research on Affective Disorders and Development (RADD) Laboratory, we are interested in understanding how certain cognitive abilities, such as being able to pay attention or learn actions that help you achieve goals, may help teenagers to cope with stress and stay healthy.

This is a two-year study. Over the course of the study, you will have two study visits at our laboratory in Boulder, each lasting about five hours. During these visits you will be interviewed about your life experiences; you will complete some computer games that involve paying attention and learning; you will have a neuroimaging scan while you either rest quietly or play computer games; and you will answer a set of surveys on a computer.

Also as part of the study, you will complete a set of online surveys and a brief telephone interview once every six months (five times total during the two-year study participation). At the end of the study, you will have a final telephone interview, lasting about two hours.

You can earn up to $750 for your time and effort completing the study.

The CU Dialogues Program is seeking applications for its new Dialogues Faculty Fellow Program, which provides summer funding of $4,000 and a community of support for study and course development to a faculty member (tenure track or instructor) interested in integrating dialogue practice and principles in their teaching. Interested in your moods and brain? Participate in a paid neuroimaging study to understand your own emotions and the emotions of others on the CU Boulder campus in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience (IRB# 17-0358).

Earn $15–$25 per hour to participate in studies involving answering questions about your thoughts and feelings, watching brief videos, playing computer games and having an MRI brain scan taken. Study includes up to three separate visits (first is 4-5 hours, second is 3 hours, third is 1-2 hours). Option for additional paid follow-ups.

To qualify, you must be between the ages of 18 and 45 years old and either have:

• A diagnosis of bipolar disorder
• A history of depression
• No history of mental health conditions

In honor of International Education Week, Nov. 12–16, Education Abroad and International Student & Scholar Services is announcing a photo contest open to current study abroad students, recent study abroad returnees and current international students and scholars.

Eligible students/scholars are welcome to submit up to three photos for a chance to win a prize. Entrants are encouraged to submit photos that reflect IEW’s mission of promoting international and intercultural understanding.

The deadline to submit photos is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Please read the rules and eligibility requirements carefully before submitting.

Three winners will be selected from Education Abroad submissions, and three winners will be selected from International Student & Scholar submissions. Winners will be honored at an IEW Coffee Hour on Friday, Nov. 9.

The Emotive Computing Lab at CU Boulder is looking for participants for a study of collaboration. 

You are eligible to participant in this research study if you:

• Are a CU Boulder student at least 18 years of age
• Speak English
• Do not have significant and uncorrected vision impairments
• Have not previously played Physics Playground or a similar game (e.g., Crayon Physics Deluxe, Magic Pen) for more than an hour

The study contains two parts:

• An at-home portion where you fill out surveys and practice the game, lasting one hour
• A visit to the lab, which will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time, lasting two hours

You will receive payment after participating in both parts of the study. You will be compensated with $50 in Amazon gift cards.

Led by CISC staff, this session focuses on two or more aspects of identity (such as race and gender) as tools of analysis and engages participants in exploring how people can simultaneously navigate social spaces with both dominant and oppressed identities. It seeks to support the building of solidarity with others through understanding the complexity of multiple and intersecting social identities held by self and others.

The October training is set for 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in C4C S435.

We are pleased to invite you to the launch of ITSS (Interdisciplinary Training in the Social Sciences). This is a new program that provides cross-disciplinary training in methods and professional socialization to graduate students who work in the social and behavioral sciences. Interested postdocs, faculty and others are also welcome at most events. The ITSS initiative is funded by the CU Boulder Graduate School and College of Arts and Sciences and is jointly run by CARTSS (Center to Advance Research and Training in the Social Sciences) and IBS (Institute of Behavioral Science). The launch event takes place on Thursday, Oct. 18, between 4:15 and 6 p.m. in the Norlin British Studies Room, M549. The first hour will consist of introductions to our programming and a moderated panel discussion on "the future of graduate training in the social sciences," followed by a social hour.
