Grad+ Summer Book Club | July 19, 3–4 p.m., Rayback Collective 
This summer, join us in reading GRIT: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth. We will discuss the book and how to apply it to your academic and personal goals. Register here.  

Self-Care for Leaders | July 20, noon–1 p.m., CASE, Room E422 
Revisit and reflect on your goals for self-care. Explore how to create supportive teams and learn strategies to communicate more effectively with those you work with. Jennie Bernstein, training and coaching program manager, and James Huffman, academic partnerships and outreach program manager, from Health Promotion, will guide you through this two-part series tailored to graduate students. Proposal Writing 101 | July 27, noon–1 p.m., Zoom 
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) invites postdocs and graduate students to learn about the process for successful proposal development. The workshop will focus on best practices for writing a quality grant proposal for potential funders. Jim Mazzouccolo, proposal editor and writing coach for the Research & Innovation Office (RIO), will discuss key steps, including reviewing funder guidelines and requirements, project planning, writing, editing and proofreading. Register here. 

Graduation deadlines 

July 19
Doctoral students must complete the PhD dissertation defense or final examination by this date. Notice of the examination must be provided to the Graduate School by your academic unit two weeks before the exam on an examination report form.  

July 26 
PhD students must submit the dissertation with Thesis Approval Form to ProQuest by this deadline. The dissertation must be submitted electronically for review and approval by Graduate School staff by the end of the business day. The Thesis Approval Form (TAF) must be uploaded as a supplemental file with the dissertation in order for the submission to be complete. Students whose dissertations are received after this deadline, or those not submitted with the TAF, must apply to graduate at the following semester's commencement. 

PhD and DMA students must fill out the Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) online by this deadline. See additional information about the survey. 

July 26

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, CU Boulder athletics will be holding a year-long celebration to commemorate the athletes, teams and moments that have made an indelible impact on women’s sports throughout the state and the country.  For more information on upcoming Title IX-related events and activities, or to share your own Title IX story, visit the new Title IX website, which will be updated regularly throughout the year. 

Title IX refers to federal legislation signed in 1972 that prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or education program that receives federal funding.

Don’t miss your opportunity to participate in Colorado’s primary election!

What to know

• It is never too late to register to vote—you may register to vote up to and including Election Day!
• Registered Democrats vote in the Democratic Primary; Republicans in the Republican Primary
• Unaffiliated voters may vote in either party’s primary but may only vote in one primary. 
• Colorado is an all-options state: Registered voters are mailed ballot, which they can vote and return, or any voter can instead vote in-person at a vote center (see below).

Did you receive your ballot in the mail?

• Drop your ballot off at the ballot dropbox outside of the UMC (located on the sidewalk leading up to the Southside Terrace on Euclid Avenue). The recommended deadline to return your ballot by mail has passed.
• Not a Boulder County ballot? No problem—Colorado voters can use any official clerk dropbox in the state to return their mail ballot. As long as it is received to an official county clerk dropbox by 7 p.m. on Election Day, county clerks then make sure it is sent to right county for counting.

Didn’t receive your ballot in the mail? No problem! At the UMC Voter Service Center, you can:

• Drop off your ballot (all Colorado voters)
• Register to vote/update your registration 
• Vote in person* 
• Request a replacement* 

Operating hours are 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday, June 27, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. and 7 a.m.–7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, June 28.

*For out-of-county Colorado students, we can issue statewide ballots only; candidates for local contents will not appear.

For on-campus students, you must have residence hall mailing address and your mailbox number. An alternative source for that information is in your housing assignment confirmation email, which may still be your MyCULiving portal.

Join the Rec Center for a 4-week training course to improve overall mobility and your capacity to shift between your hands and feet. This course will emphasize a strong connection with your core, building strength and flexibility and improving mobility.

This is a great option for cross-functional training if you practice yoga or strength training.

Beginning July 18, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival will host a three-week camp for young actors, in which students will rehearse, stage and perform a shortened Shakespeare play on the beautiful Mary Rippon Outdoor Stage. Limited space available for these small-class sessions. No prior experience with Shakespeare is necessary.

Since 1987, the University Perspective program has developed and deepened the leadership capacity of staff on the CU Boulder campus. Participants of the nine-month program gain firsthand knowledge of the university through meetings with senior leaders on the Boulder campus and each of the other three campuses in the CU system and the CU system office.

Applications are now open and due by Friday, July 15.

During maintenance that affects the portals, such as the maintenance scheduled for Sunday, June 26, remember you can directly access Canvas (canvas.colorado.edu) and some other services that are provided through the portals.

Since 2020, the AB Nexus Research Collaboration Grant Program has awarded over $2 million to 30 teams featuring researchers from CU Boulder and CU Anschutz Medical Campus. AB Nexus is pleased to announce its fall 2022 program, which seeks proposals from interdisciplinary teams that expand and strengthen areas of research collaboration between the Anschutz and Boulder campuses.

The University Libraries is updating the main online library search as part of a planned move to a new library services platform, the Future Of Libraries Is Open (FOLIO). The new OneSearch will launch on June 20 and will offer a cleaner, more modern search of the catalog and a new look for the search bar.

This means that OneSearch permalinks to books, articles and journals currently used in syllabi, courses and elsewhere will no longer work, effective July 2022. Faculty will need to update any permalinks they are using to point to the new OneSearch.

The CU Boulder COVID-19 dashboard has been retired as of May 31, 2022. Archived data remains accessible for the fall 2020, spring 2021, fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters. 

Boulder County continues to publish the most current local COVID-19 metrics, which incorporate case metrics for CU Boulder affiliates living in the county.

While Boulder County is currently classified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the High community level, there are no on-campus restrictions at this time. We will continue to monitor local conditions, and implement a framework for public health and COVID-19 decision-making that follows CDC guidance.

CU Boulder continues to take the following measures to help minimize transmission of COVID-19:

• CU Boulder’s vaccine/booster requirement remains in place for students, faculty and staff.
• Masks and rapid antigen tests for home use continue to be available for students and employees at distribution sites across campus, including the University Memorial Center (UMC), Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE), Sustainability, Energy and Environment Community (SEEC) and the Student Recreation Center.
  • Home tests are also available on the third floor of Wardenburg Health Center.
• Free COVID-19 testing and vaccination continue to be available through Medical Services.
