The TEDxCU team is seeking speakers to share innovative ideas at this year’s event on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in Macky Auditorium. The application portal is open, and we need your help finding speakers who will inspire our community and embody the theme, Renaissance.

This year’s theme

A French word meaning rebirth or new beginning, Renaissance, at its core, is characterized by a renewed emphasis on humanism, a philosophical stance that places human beings and their capabilities at the forefront of intellectual inquiry and creative expression. The TEDxCU 2024 event aims to rekindle the fire of intellectual curiosity and creative exploration, drawing inspiration from an era that celebrated human potential in all its forms.

Call for speakers, performances, exhibits

TEDxCU wants to hear from community members who are blending tradition with innovation to tackle contemporary challenges in our changing world. Our talks will celebrate the timeless spirit of human curiosity, creativity, and progress and represent a variety of fields and perspectives. Inspired by the transformative era of the Renaissance, this TEDxCU event gathers thinkers, visionaries and change-makers from diverse fields to explore how the essence of rebirth continues to shape our modern world.

If you or someone you know has an idea worth spreading that fits the Renaissance theme, please apply! The application is open to anyone of any age. Community members not affiliated with the university are also encouraged to apply. The deadline to apply is Sunday, Oct. 15, at 11:59 p.m. MT (the application also requires a two-minute video of the applicant talking about their idea—you do not have to have a fully written or developed presentation, just an idea worth spreading).

This year marks the sixth annual recognition of Ombuds Day. Stop by the Ombuds Office table at Dirk’s Patio (east side of C4C) on Wednesday, Oct. 11, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to learn about ombuds and pick up some Voodoo Doughnuts and swag!

Are you interested in learning more about how to help others experiencing mental health concerns?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a nationally recognized training course that helps someone without clinical training to assist others experience mental health or substance use challenges. Course participants are introduced to risk factors and warning signs, engage in experiential activities, discuss relevant professional and self-help resources, and learn a five-step strategy to provide support.

Health Promotion within Health and Wellness Services is offering this course on Thursday, Oct. 19. The training will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Developed and hosted in Boulder since 2018, UROP's Sidewalk Symposium invites undergraduates to create and share their research and creative presentations with chalk on campus walkways—all in collaboration with a professional artist!

All CU Boulder undergraduates engaged in campus research and creative projects are encouraged to join the fun! Materials will be provided and event staff, including our artist collaborator, will be on-hand throughout the day to provide assistance.

The Engineering Excellence Fund (EEF) is currently recruiting up to two undergraduate students and up to two graduate students to participate in the committee to start this semester. The application deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 3. Students are encouraged to submit applications early, as interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.

The EEF is a committee of six undergraduate and three graduate students who award funding for student, staff and faculty projects of varying scopes and amounts. Each student member has an equal vote in funding decisions. Additionally, non-voting faculty advisers participate in discussions and provide insight and guidance to the students on the committee.

Minimum responsibilities

All sitting EEF members are required to attend weekly committee meetings and to read all submitted proposals during the two mini and one major proposal cycles, which occur each academic year. Members often take on additional leadership, development and promotional tasks.

Interested in how plastic exposure might impact maternal and child health? Participate in a paid study to help researchers better understand how microplastics might alter human health and determine what lifestyle factors might increase exposure.

As a participant, you will earn $200 for completing several questionnaires and providing biological samples. This study includes at-home biological sample collections and questionnaires as well as one visit to the Clinical Translational Research Center (CTRC) in Boulder for physical health assessments and a blood draw.

Eligibility:

• First-time moms
• Mother/infant pairs
• Approximately one month postpartum
• Living in Denver or Boulder

Interested in joining the Ralphie handler team?

Applicants are required to:

• Be full-time CU Boulder students (undergraduate and graduate)
• Have a minimum 2.0 GPA
• Have at least one fall semester remaining prior to graduation

Students selected to be a Ralphie handler will be required to complete a medical physical, driving tests, background checks, and dedicate approximately 30 hours a week to the Ralphie Program. Mandatory participation is not limited to times when school is in session. We need you to keep the best tradition in college sports alive!
